I once read something about Petty not liking the Gators despite being from Hogtown. Seems he wasn’t treated well by the frat boys when he played

Well they’re from Marietta, GA but identify as an Atlanta band so I stand corrected. I’ve always wanted to go to Athens….if they happened to be playing there at the time it would be super

You gotta give the Crowes to South Carolina. Athens had a great music scene in the 80s and 90s, especially if you liked alternative or prog rock but the Crowes don't belong on the list of Athens bands.

Didn’t they go to Walton HS in Marietta?

Yeah but for some reason my memory has pegged Chris' time at Wofford as important for the Crowes timeline. I can't remember the story or why tho.

If we expand to Atlanta bands that's a ton of bands. But the thing is I all of them very much influenced one another in that time frame. REM had a hand in boosting several.

Does Athens claim the Black Crowes too? I thought that’s where they got popular

The Black Crowes were from Atlanta, formed there in 1984.

I think they played a lot in Athens. 10,000 maniacs did too and had Athens roots

Creature Comforts

Also, Michael Houser era Widespread Panic is better than any of the other shite mentioned in this thread.

I don't think Petty gave a shite about sports. That was the conflict he had with his dad. He was a scrawny kid interested in the arts and music. His dad wanted a jock.

I guess if you like hearing Dave Schools' bass and the same song but different lyrics played over and over again.

Well Tom Petty said there was no easy way out, but he stood his ground and didn't back down.

Tarantino has put out some great movies but is a true asshat.
McCarthy is by far the best author of the modern era. Just absolutely magnificent. Child of God and Blood Meridian are so good they make me weep. His writing is so damn excellent. I could go on...

Gainesville also has skateboarder Rodney Mullen. And Devil's Millhopper, the best sinkhole in the entire south.

The Road made me weep for a different reason. It crushed my soul as the worst book I’ve ever read by far.
