Damn that was a beautiful clean hit It looked great live. It suvks because there is no angle to see definitely if it was helmet to helmet or not. You cant tell
It does not have to be helmet to helmet on a defenseless player. It you hit a defenseless player in the “head or neck area” with anything; arm, shoulder, knee; anything; it is by rule targeting.
If you watch the replay taken from the other endzone you can clearly see the missouri player hit the receiver in the facemask and under the chin. Forceable contact to the head/neck of a defenseless player was clear. It was so obvious a replay wasn’t even needed.
Again people here do not understand the rules.

was that the same mizzou player that was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting earlier in the game?

What rule am I missing?
You apparently don’t realize there are two targeting rules. So you wouldn’t understand the difference between the two. Start at the 30 second mark. It explains targeting and then targeting of a defenseless player.
quote:
Targeting and Making Forcible Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player
ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)
quote:
Do you have to physically let the receiver catch it and take steps first before you hit them? Can't hit them in mid air? What is it?
You can tackle them. In mid-air. You just have to tackle them below the shoulders.

I think o most fans understand the rule. It’s just that not every program is hit with those calls as some others are. Call it consistently and not arbitrarily and then the bitching would be reduced.

the game turned on that call. They were stopped but instead wound up scoring and we lost our best safety where we are thin.

Yeah I know. Wasn't it 1st quarter? I know it was early

No, not the same player that was penalized for unsportsmanlike. That was on Young

oh OK, so then there are multiple thugs on the mizzou team - got it - it all comes down from Drink so they are evidently coached to play dirty

it was the first quarter. When it happened I said no way that holds up under review, and one of the people I was watching it with said well we are playing bama
and then they didn't even review it. So I said oh yeah we are playing bama. No one was even pissed about it. It was just this matter of fact realization that this is part of an SEC game against bama

it's already been stated in this thread that ALL targeting calls are reviewed

Plays like that for a whole career used to get you into the NFL Hall of Fame. Now it's "defenseless" and get you flagged every time.

it's a rule that all targeting calls are reviewed
there is no rule that the broadcaster shows endless replays

The past 5 years, out of 134 FBS teams, 'Bama has finished:
'24 - 116th
'23 - 65th
'22 - 129th
'21 - 99th
'20 - 62nd
in penalties per game. Routinely one of the most penalized teams in the conference and country. So, this narrative that Alabama gets every call is hilarious to actual fans. I guess teams with tigers as their mascots have to say this kind of shite to feel better.

I posted a video explaining targeting and people still are confused.

Every targeting call is reviewed you dipshit
This shite is fixed worse than the NFL. There is absolutely no reason why the SEC conference is relying on "part time" employees to make game deciding decisions on Saturdays! The ABC contract ALONE is worth $300 million a year! Let this sink in, we have a BILLION DOLLAR A YEAR CONFERENCE THAT EMPLOYS CRUCIAL EMPLOYEES THAT THIS IS THEIR SECOND JOB!
I'm starting to think that this is by design. Money has taken over the sport, and we are getting the results that drive profits.
