4 4-team pods work well if done properly and if you have 9 conference games.

3 games vs. teams in your pod.
2 games vs. teams in each other pod.

If you protect certain rivalries like the PAC 12 does, you can rotate the other games.

Example

Pod 1: t.u., Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas
Pod 2: Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss
Pod 3: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn
Pod 4: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky

You protect the following games:

Texas A&M/t.u.
LSU/Alabama
Ole Miss/Tennessee
Auburn/Georgia

Then you rotate the rest

So pods + permanent rival games.

What possible advantage does this give?

Yep. We lost a legitimate traditional rival because of that. We play Chicken every year now instead of Auburn. Pisses me off to this day.

What makes the SEC special is our tradition, and losing rivalries is a good way to kill tradition.

play them as OOC if they're not on regular rotation

I don't want any system where we don't play Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, and Auburn every year, so I'll probably be disappointed with whatever system they come up with.

Never. Georgia and Auburn have been playing since 1892

And outside of Aub/GA fans...who cares about it.

When you have to explain why the game is important...is it really important?

The next closest SEC rivalry is the Egg Bowl with just 118 meetings. You can't get rid of this type of tradition... its literally the game that started all of this for the South.

Agree...it should be protected. A legitimate in-state rivalry that is viewed outside of those fanbases as a rivalry.

And the SEC did just fine afterwards...which basically supports the argument of dropping a few.

There are disadvantages to every solution. Almost every proposal has nine (some have ten) conference games prior to the SEC Championship Game

Most proposals also assume a single championship game. That's probably a good idea if you don't want three of the four best teams ending the regular season with a loss

the opposite POV is that "it's important to me so it has to be important to you". play these rivalries when they're not on rotation like an OOC game. get fair scheduling and the rivalry is intact

And that is the main problem. You can't protect Alabama-Auburn, Georgia-Florida, Georgia-Auburn, and Alabama-Tennessee by sticking all of those teams in a pod.

So Alabama Auburn and Georgia need two rivalry games? Think I found the problem

Pods will work. 1 permanent game from the other 3 pods and rotate the pod a team plays every year. It also shuffles divisions so east/west is a thing of the past and it maintains the championship game.

i don't know what the f youre talking about. one side says we must keep these historic rivalries. the other says we need fair scheduling or a rotation that allows more teams to play more teams. this works both ways. you're being accommodated. not the fan who has little interest in Aub/Ga, for instance. your'e the one taking down statues, not me.

You mean the statutes that were put up by the Daughters of Confederacy to celebrate white supremacy decades after the Civil War ended? It’s not tearing down statues of history; it’s tearing down statues of propaganda. Moron.
