So you’re position is, despite his claim one of his issues was lack of playing time, and those reasons were without doubt refusing to block and having no route tree, as a junior (?) I think he will put I all together after being completely passed up by two non heralded freshman who blocked and worked on their craft? Whatever you say man. He will never see the field for Bama because saban won’t accept his shite.

Well first absolutely immediately the non interconference and 1 year transfer rules must be brought backX beyond that, im not the guy smart enough for a better long term option.

I don't know anything about all that. I'm just pushing back a little on your claim that he's leaving because he wants to go to the easy Pac 12 where he doesn't have to work hard and can run 1 route and have some success. If he transfers to a Pac12 school? Fine, reasonable. But if he transfers to somewhere like Alabama (which has been linked), it'd be hard to claim his motivation is to go to the easy route. Because playing at Alabama is about as close to playing at Georgia in terms of difficulty to get on the field and stay on it as exists in CFB.

In terms of the transfer portal as a whole, it is what it is. You are gonna lose some guys. Just gotta be scouting college football all year in addition to recruiting to find some replacements, which will mainly be depth roles for really good programs like ours.

What a dumb arse melt.

The only way to reign it in at this point is with contracts, and paying players isn’t allowed. It is what it is at this point.

Why universities are still clinging to the NCAA, I don’t know. It’s a failed institution that the highest court in the U.S. indicated it wouldn’t protect.
Conferences should break off and manage their athletic programs directly and create agreements for inter-conference competition.

I mean maybe I’m wrong and he will prove me wrong and go to Bama, but something has happened or been going on witH the kid since he got to UGA as a very highly rated player. This should have his year to own it all especially after Pickens went down. Instead AD Mitchell a 3 star true freshman basically took it away from him because he does the things UGA requires from their receivers. Maybe it’s not as I described and maybe it’s something behind the scenes but the circumstantial evidence like I can’t remember he being involved in one run snap this year or a route that’s not a double move and go (something he is very very good at) outside a slant or two. It’s weird and I think it’s an interesting outlier and case study In the wild west of CFB we live in

This board is so stupid. It’s why I rarely post anything Other than humor because having a serious conversation around here is like teaching my dog to play Ghost of Tsushima

you might get a serious reply if you didn't trash the kid and sound so angry

I agree the portal is getting out of hand. But our staff needs to do more on their end to keep kids happy

If anyone actually read the three I’m not “melting.” I liked burton fine but has been largely passed up despite his raw talent. This is more about how the rule changes have possibly resulted in players not becoming complete and maintaining competitive intensity to stay on the field. It sucks to lose anyone but don’t be blinded by his recruiting hype UGA will plug in someone likely less talented but better. That’s not a melt it’s a lamentation out system could be harming talented kids prospects at futures

shite man you’re soft. I didn’t trash him and read the thread I’m not angry I’ve said good things about him. My main 3 contentions

1) he can’t and doesn’t block. That is just a fact
2) he’s almost exclusively runs double move go routes which he is amazing at I’ll admit
3) he’s been 200% passed up by two 3 stars

Those are all truths. How’s that trashing the kid?

NFL is all they care about, and 25 catches isn't going to get him a look as a 1st rounder.

I'm sure he's very concerned with your opinion of what you think he should do and your opinion of his actions.

I will always love the kid for that’s absolute beautiful route ball adjustment and dime Stetson dropped for him in the orange bowl. Whoever gets him you’re getting 8-12 of that a year. Depending on how good your QB. Will always love the kid for being a part, and actually his best stretch of the season was the championship run; of our 1980 n more.

I do also think this situation perfectly encapsulates a problem possible not foreseen by our transfer rules. How touted kid comes in, gets a few looks as a freshmen but knows he can leave whenever the frick he wants in his mind. So he decides he doesn’t like all the stuff UGA requires from WR to get his desired play time. Then when 2 3 starts whocbarely got recruited passed he up he bouncers. This only hurts the players like this in the long run.

Iron sharpens iron: Burton’ could be a very different player today without the portal: he’s not alone or even close in this respect just thought of it today because of Jermaine

Why do people post shite like this outside of the OT? It’s a message board. Everyone here cares what everyone here says. And maybe he should care. Unless there is behind the scenes stuff it would br impossible to know about it appears he’s been getting bad advice for a long time. Instead of changing that and building mental toughness he leaves. This is a terrible lesson to teach young adults to prepare them for life. As for burton in the NFL, he has the raw talent but I doubt he makes it. It’s too late in the game to act like he must act now. He could be a project guy who needs a few years and explodes.

Considering there’s a ton of NFL receivers, I’d say at least a few. Jameson at Bama tried to block but he sucked at it. Still viewed as a 1st round talent (injury may hurt him)

Jimmy Graham was an All Pro TE and he hated blocking. There are even some plays of him lazily letting the guy go past him.
