It was for the national championship, as Notre Dame only had 1 tie (10-0-1 record). If that's not important to them, then I don't know what to tell you.

With no insult intended to the Fighting Irish most of those games came when the game was radically different.
They did have some serious hoodoo on Alabama though.
We've got them on a home and away coming up (they owed us after stealing Michigan away) which should be fun.
I would love to see them play LSU in a home and away but letting THE Catholic university play in a state with large Catholic population might be giving them carte blanche to recruit down here... something Notre Dame is desperate to do.

We may only be 2-5 against them, but the arse destruction we laid on them in 2012 ought to count for about five wins all by itself.
We at least moved up to outscoring them in the series.

quote:Yeah, Bama was ranked #1 in the Coaches poll in 1974 (#2 in the AP poll) before the bowl games. Notre Dame win in Orange Bowl dropped Bama to #2 in Coaches poll.
Losing to them in the Orange Bowl at the end of the 74 season did cost y'all a crystal football though.
Also the 73 season, Bama won the Coaches poll before the bowls. Bama was also ranked #1 in the AP poll before the bowl games, but after being defeated by #3 ND in the Sugar Bowl, ND won the AP & cost Bama the AP title that year.
This is why Bama's 2012 season BCS title win over Notre Dame was sooooo sweet. ND had cost Bama at least 2 titles. So #2 Alabama beat #1 ND & cost them the 2012 title.

It wasn't for Notre Dame. They were 9-1-1 and 11-1 #2 Pitt had already won their bowl.
