it’s pretty sad to compare where CFB is now versus a mere 10-15 years ago The conferences representing an actual geographic region and traditional rivalries being at the forefront of the experience is what made the sport fun to keep up with. This NFL-lite thing they’ve been crafting for the last decade is going to be such a sterilized experience compared to what we once had. I hate it.
+1 and pretty much everyone else here my man.
NCAA has always been incompetent though, it was always in spite of their mismanagement that CFB remained fun and chaotic. Not surprised they’re ruining it.
Ppl say “oh shut up you’ll watch the games like you always have”. I say you can only shite on your patrons in the name of money for so long before people eventually start to lose interest. Things like that don’t happen overnight.

When there is 8 teams, sec will likely get the benefit of the doubt and have the top 2 teams in anyways.
Before then, y’all don’t deserve 2 teams.
What a stupid thread. I only respect the sec fans that don’t try to dick ride the conference. The rest of you are figs

Wait it’s 12 getting in and not 8? Wow I completely forgot about that.

And now suddenly so many on this board are against eliminating divisions, posters on this board do love to clutch their pearls

So the literal definition of a meaningless game.
It’s the best game on earth when 2 teams make the NC and an SECC is being playing by a 1 and 3.
But now? It’s literally pointless.

Oh spare me the melodrama, literally every other sport and every other level of college football has a true playoff system and conferences with no divisions. Once again we have old heads acting like the antiquated system they grew up with is somehow actually superior. If the year was 1997 you same people would be claiming that the BCS will be the death of college football.

So seeding never matters in the NFL? Do you know how dumb you sound

What I see happening soon. Champ games removed, 16 team playoff with no byes.
At which point conferences no longer matter at all for football, outside of TV contracts. Congrats to the SEC for bloating up to 16 teams tho lol.

The Seccg Would be for a BYE in the playoffs

if the title game is close, both teams get in. unless there's some weird head-to-head frickery they aren't letting in #3 over #2 who got blown out. and if you're #2 and got stomped what is the point of even going to the playoffs when your fate is getting rolled by the same team who you already played a few weeks ago

hey if you think you’ll enjoy the product more, I’m not going to jump all over your balls so you can hop right off of mine.
I think this has all been to the detriment of the sport, but that’s TBD. There’s a lot of inertia behind CFB being a social phenomena and something that brings people together so I doubt it’ll be hurting overnight and maybe it never will.
What I can say for certain is the loss of tension in the regular season and gradual loss of annual rivalry games is tanking my personal interest in the sport and I highly doubt I’m alone.

It will only be for seeding. There will never be a year when at least 2 SEC teams make the playoff.

you're not wrong. what stops the #1 overall team like UGA from sitting their starters in the championship
1) Head coach contract and NIL deals incentivizing winning the SEC championship.
2) Bye week in playoff.

NCAA has nothing to do with playoffs or any CFB post season

Seeding in the NFL matters a lot because you get the chance at first round byes and home team advantage all the way to the super bowl, plus far more parity. In college, if a dominant team like UGA were to barely try in the SEC title game and get the #5 seed, they would play the #12 seed at home against a Group of 5 team like Tulane, then draw the worst of the top 4 conference champs in the second round....so a team like TCU or Washington.

The difference is the SEC team that loses the champ game and 3rd place SEC team.
