The SEC title game is going to be a joke

1. With divisions eliminated and the top 2 teams in the game, both teams will already be ranked high enough to make the playoffs. The title game will only be a chance to play your way out of the playoff, get key players injured, and/or decrease your seed instead of an opportunity to play your way in.
2. The #3 ranked SEC team will likely already have a playoff spot secured and gets to sit home with no risk of hurting their seed or getting players injured.
3. The game will be anticlimactic as the only advantage to playing the game is a first round bye, which isn’t that impactful considering the alternative is a home game against a non P5 team or a low ranked Pac, B12, or ACC team.
4. Determining the 2 teams will feel arbitrary. In years with a dominant team like UGA the past 2 years, the 2nd place team will likely be whatever team avoided the dominant team in the regular season.
5. Ultimately it is an unnecessary postseason game where the loser likely doesn’t go home.
6. Conference title games in the B12, ACC, Pac, or even non P5 may be more exciting to watch than the SEC or B10 since those title games will likely actually have playoff implications.

I like the strategy. Start telling yourself now that Bama doesn’t want to even be in that game. Helps soothe the pain in December. Upvote from me

the SEC title game died when the power brokers killed the BCS and implemented a CFP.

Eh, I think they SEC championship game will always carry some weight.

Conference championship games need to go away once the playoff is expanded. They are a releck of a bygone era and no longer useful

It can determine higher seeding which can be an off week or home game. It helped LSU get the #1 spot in 2019 and get to play OK instead of Clemson in the first game.

Uncomfortable truth.

Sounds familiar. Where have we seen this before?

you're not wrong. what stops the #1 overall team like UGA from sitting their starters in the championship

For years, I’ve 100% been for getting rid of the game if we expand the playoff.
It’s genuinely pointless with 12 getting in.

The first Atlanta Iron Bowl where Auburn wins the last game of the regular season, lose their RB, and then get smoked by Bama in Atlanta will be a doozy.

Enter any team winning as underdog…both teams should make 12 team playoff regardless…or even now imma 4 teamer.

The game is not needed anymore with the expanded playoff.
Both teams will be locks now. All it will do will affect playoff spot.
What I see happening soon. Champ games removed, 16 team playoff with no byes.
