You're right, UGA does schedule decent non-conference opponents. But that is Georgia. The SEC overall does not.
I'm not saying that the SEC doesn't have great teams, they do. But the conference from top to bottom isn't as strong as it's made out to be.
There are enough years where they are, so the ESPN/SEC media machine just takes it for granted that they will be every year. Case in point:
LSU
Florida
South Carolina
Tennessee
Were all ranked in the preseason top 25, yet none were even close to that at the end of the year.

Of the Power 4 conferences. Only the SEC has fewer teams in the top 25 now, than they did in the preseason top 25.

Watching all the bowl games this year there is a trend that I've noticed. The SEC has always won with a stout defense. The SEC doesn't have a defense. We can score but just can stop anybody!!
