Unlike when the B12 teams had to choose to put most all their elite skill players on offense, the depth of SEC athletes allows for still above average defensive play. With Heuple added to the mix, it’s going to be an “I’ll take the over” next couple of years.

Has it though? The SEC has still put out a bunch of really good defensive performances in the playoffs the past 2 years

Are you inferring that it won't work like this, that other conferences/schools with stout defenses will start winning titles? Because that isn't what has gone on in the past decade for the SEC.

It's really only LSU, 2019 and Alabama, 2020, that have/had super offenses that carried them. The better SEC teams before 2019 were not really super-highpowered offenses.

I think this is an overreaction. Alabama played some of its best defense in the playoffs. Shutting down a really good Ohio State offense that had just blasted Clemson.

I don't recall ever having to choose to put our most athletic players on offense. We recruited athletic guys that were already skill players. We still do.

And your defenses are tracking on an identical downward slide that the BIG XII's defense did when spread offenses arrived.

Are you talking about statistical rankings at the end of the season?
What exactly is your metric?

BTW,how are the defenses "tracking" vs OOC opponents compared to the BIG 12?

Statistical ranking at the end of the season, yes. Watching how they play in games. Final scores. You're having more basketball scores, like we did.

I don't know that answer to that or what difference it makes. Defenses were pretty strong in the league last year, and it showed in the bowls, so probably not the best question to ask.

Do you have some type of link or analytical data to back this up?

Of course it does if these high scores are within the conference and they're still playing good defense against high powered offenses from outside the conference.Like LSU last year vs OU and Clemson or like Bama this year vs Clemson.

You can find that on the NCAA defensive standings website.

Let's not act like we haven't seen Bama's defense get shredded in the post season, or Clemson's, or Ohio States. Bama didn't play Clemson this year. All the normal playoff participants have had their defenses shredded on national television, win or lose.

The offenses in your league have been modernized and improved, especially in the West. They are the offenses we ran for over a decade in the BIG XII. Your defensive reputation is going to take a big hit. There's no way around that.
