His family is really smart and looked at the pitching pipeline at Vandy then decided it would be the right career move for him. Corbin (and pitching coach Scott Brown) have an incredible track record. They also do a good job of maintaining the guys' arms. Corbs and Brown must have been really sure Rocker could handle it last night because they're typically very conservative with pitch counts. I was shocked Rocker came out for the 8th at 104 pitches. Then even 3 outs from a no-no, I didn't think there was any way Corbs would send him out for the 9th based on the track record.

Better question: how the hell did this kid not get drafted and already go pro?

Because he felt like he could get even better development at Vandy and Vandy is a very good school (not to also mention that some might not like traveling on those minor league buses). Vandy always gets these coups because of their coaching staff and school.

If he wanted to, he could've easily turned pro, but he was turning down money and higher draft slots to go to Vandy.

As I understand it from watching the broadcast last night, he actually did get drafted. Mama said nope. He signed with Vandy and the rest is history. Coming from a family of means helps make that decision easier. A free Vandy education is nothing to sneeze at and he'll get drafted soon enough.

Lil dude for Duke wasn’t bad either.

Maybe they should have saved him for game 3 and conceded game two.

130 pitches over 9 innings is less stressful on the arm than 100 pitches in 6. It’s the long innings that are a killer.

There is no evidence of this anywhere. Many studies have been done on this that have found that “high stress” innings are a myth.

As SECFan1995 said, Kumar basically told MLB teams they had no chance to sign him. The same thing happened with Al Leiter's kid, Jack this year. There's a serious pipeline to the League that runs through Vandy, especially for pitchers. Scott Brown is an incredible pitching coach, and the SEC baseball experience is probably a lot more fun (even with having to take classes) than those long minor league road trips in "meh" at best accommodations.

Corbin ought to be ashamed for that pitch count
I bet Rocker doesn't last 5 innings in his next outing in Omaha.

Should be pitching for Auburn

Why should it be Auburn over Tennessee?
