For any interested, this is a light read about the gap.
The missing decades

quote:

The two schools, which ended the series because of a $34 dispute in the game contract, tried to save the series in 1908.

quote:

After 1944, several legislative attempts were made to force the two schools to play again, but all attempts failed. The Legislature did, however, pass several resolutions calling on the two schools to play each other. Those resolutions were rejected by both schools.

(1948)
quote:

After much anticipation and many political efforts, the big game was finally resumed at Birmingham's Legion Field. Alabama, which had earned a national reputation with trips to the Rose and Sugar bowls, overwhelmed the Tigers, 55-0.

quote:

Alabama came into the 1949 Iron Bowl again expecting to blow away the Tigers but Auburn won its second game of the year with a 14-13 upset of the Tide.

Win, lose or draw, I love that the Iron Bowl survives.

Here is to hoping we have a clean game with no injuries!

Can someone post the rate of deforestation in the Auburn area since 1948?

Well 34 bucks was a fortune to an Alabamian.

I think the average salary for a coach back then was what , 50 dollars?

Sexton would have doubled that, I bet.

I wish the state would get Legion Field remodeled and move the game back there. Make it a real Iron Bowl again. I used to go to the game in the '60s and early '70s and the game, and the entire week in B'ham, was fantastic!

Imagine the lead Alabama would have if we didn't take the break...

Legion Field is downright scary now.

Such a shame.

I attended some fun games at Legion Field, but this will never, ever happen. LF was out of date and the area around it was considered unsafe twenty-five years ago, and things have only gotten worse. Tuscaloosa and Auburn as cities (and yes, Auburn has grown to the point that it's a true city now) benefit tremendously from hosting the game and will never let it go.

This right here. The two cities make millions in sales/lodging tax revenue on gameday weekend.
