Hell naw. You know that Oxford, MS is the Cultural Mecca of the SEC. The crown jewel of college towns, bish.

Suck it, SI.

It's amazing that Oxford, the best college town in the SEC, is only 75 miles away from the worst, and in the same state.

Honestly Fayetteville and Athens are the only ones who should make the list if we're excluding Nashville.

I know, right. It's almost like someone wrote about Missoula, MT, Santa Cruz, CA, Asheville, NC, Ann Arbor, MI, Eugene, OR and Boulder, CO just so they could write about Oxford, MS.

Friggin' shills, I tell ya.

Yawn. Look left and right and enjoy a great night. At the end of it all . . . you're still in Mississippi - and that sucks.

Athens is way more appealing of a place to be than Oxford, MS.

Fayetteville is in a beautiful setting and has artsy stuff and business importance outside of the college. It's got some charm.

Athens has a great music scene and plenty of bohemian shite going on that isn't the college, and it's also the best downtown of any SEC college town (and like 4x the size of most).

Contrast that with Oxford, which is a tiny hamlet with zero non-college significance. It's charm and laughably overrated literary/art scene is completely tied to the existence of a rather insignificant but romanticized college there (thereby invalidating it from this list).

Boulder is amazing if you can afford it, and can handle all the leftist tree-hugger types transplanted from California. It's fun to visit though

Congrats on being "charming"

The ladies at the AFAR blog seem smitten. Maybe next year y'all can make the Most Precious College Towns list
