I get what you are saying...but in a true rivalry a fan would not pull for their rival under any circumstances.
But yeah. The 1980 thing is a pretty hefty sword to swing around.

Sorry, I disagree with you. I’m an Auburn fan first and foremost. There are times when Alabama winning favors us and our program. If Alabama beating LSU means us winning the West, for example, then I’ll damn sure pull for Alabama to win. Same goes for that NC game. UGA winning that game would’ve been worse for us than Alabama winning (as described above.)
Because yes, the much more recent NC and Heisman are about the only thing we can still hold over you guys.
If Florida beating South Carolina meant UGA advancing to the SEC Championship, would you hope they won? Or Georgia Tech beating Clemson bumped you into a playoff spot?
It’s not a simple as “I hate Alabama so I hope they lose no matter what, even if it negatively affects our program.” It’s not like we were running around with Tide boxes and TP and yelling “Roll Tide” then molesting our cousins.

Let me put it this way. I can't imagine a scenario in which I would want Florida or Georgia tech to win a National Championship and i would pull for them.
I certainly can't imagine getting on a message board and starting a thread stating that I was happy Florida (or GT) had won a Title.

Or bc their program is too low level for Bama’s success to impact them. There’s no reason any LSU , A&M or Auburn fan should pull for Bama. Every time Bama wins, a recruit wants to go there over their team. It’s common sense here.

Ok you are further proving my point. It makes no sense to pull for an sec team if they’re a direct threat to your sec team. It’s ok to pull for Vandy or Mississippi state if you are an LSU fan. I don’t see how people find this concept so difficult

So during a game like a Bama v UGA National Championship, who are you going to pull for? You gonna say "we recruit against both so I hope they both lose" and hope that an asteroid hits the stadium or some shite? Because otherwise one team will beat the other. Or are you gonna protest watching it? Not like that will matter to recruits.
WTF does it matter who we pull for?
Who do you think SEC fans pulled for in the Bama v LSU national championship? Thats just the same shite different day.

yes, you do, but that still doesn't answer why you would pull for your "most hated rival.". You enjoy sharing a state with a supposedly "hated rival" while they win championship after championship and you still have two?

LSU recruits more head to head with Alabama than they do georgia, and they also have to get through Alabama to make it to the SECCG, so it only makes sense for them to pull for Georgia and hope it hurts Alabama recruiting and therefore enhances their chances to win the West.
But not Auburn fans. You pull for your "Hated Rival" to win another championship and therefore make it even easier for them to get better recruits and beat Auburn.
Yeahyeahyeah. I get that Alabama recruits at an elite level anyway and more often than not comes in with a #1 class....but do you really want those #1 classes to get even stronger and better?
And to get on a message board and brag about your biggest rival winning and making it more difficult to beat your team is way beyond comprehension.

I get that. I dont get it either. But I mean I feel the same way about this upcoming game. Im torn. I hate Bama but have hated tOSU my entire life. Just like I hate Clemsux.
I dont like any of them but its not like im not gonna watch it.
Since moving across the country i learned to pull for Auburn first, conference 2nd, and state 3rd.

I have often thought of who I would be a fan of if I couldn't be a fan of Georgia, or anybody else in the SEC. OSU was thought of. And rejected. Oklahoma. Same. rejected. I would probably just stay away from college football.
