is that he had 2 years to go and get a QB out of the portal who could effectively operate in his offense, and he opted to be the nice guy and let the upper classmen locker room guys be the QB.

That's why he hasn't had success yet.
In the new age of cfb, it's all about NOW. If you don't have an elite QB on your roster, you go out and get one like Kiffin did at Ole Miss. Period.

Instead we probably spent a pretty penny getting the #1 QB out of HS last recruiting class. Michigan and Auburn paid the big bucks to get a highly touted HS QB last year also. How did that work out?
Michigan/Auburn floundered, the coach got fired, and the expensive HS QB transferred to somewhere else.

It makes no sense to spend money on HS QBs anymore, or really any HS players at all.
It's much smarter money to go and offer the big bucks to guys who have proven themselves at the college level - preferably the P5 level.

If we learned anything from this season, it's this.

More emotional overreaction from non-ball knowers.

This year is an anomaly, re: buying a roster.

Heaven forbid you actually try to coach a kid to play QB.

Nah, the better option is to go get a QB who somebody else has already coached up on how to play

And claiming that your coach wastes time actually being a coach/teacher isn't a valid criticism.

Transfer QBs are the way.

Burrow, Daniels...both transfers. LSU has the cincy baller Sorsby on campus right now.

It is the way.

Sure, you can do this if the fanbase doesn't mind having disappointing seasons while that kid takes a few years to develop.

I could honestly see a scenario in the future where HS kids go to the G5 schools first, and then the P5 schools recruit their roster from the G5 schools.

You coach a kid up these days and the wind changes direction.

Suddenly hes at a different school. Then youre fricked. Different time now.

All 4 of the teams in the semi finals have transfer QBs starting. Last year it was a transfer QB who won the national title, with the runner up also having a transfer QB.

Its hard to argue against the results

The last four Heisman Trophy winners have been transfer players:

Fernando Mendoza originally played at California
Travis Hunter originally played at Jackson State
Jayden Daniels was originally at Arizona State
Caleb Williams was originally at Oklahoma

I honestly don't understand how you watched this season and thought the problem was the QB rather than the offensive line.

I don't normally respond to newbies but Kiffin recruited Trinidad as a backup to Simmons got hurt and the rest is a lucky history. Simmons is in the portal.

Ty Simpson was in the top three in Heisman odds thru week 10.

QB was not the glaring issue. Blocking, catching and holding on to the ball were.

Your QB that you Bama fans are shitting all over was top 10 in the nation in yards and TDs, with only 5 INTs (that's top 5 in the nation in INT %). He did all of this with the 125th ranked rushing attack in the nation.

DeBoer's failure is the inability to have a running game. No QB is saving Grubb and that scheme.

Ryan Grubb

2025 Alabama - 125th
2024 Seattle (NFL) - 28th (out of 32 teams)
2023 Washington - 106th
2022 Washington - 69th
2021 Fresno - 91st
2020 Fresno - 108th

Y'all are blaming the wrong position.

Yeah idk how you could look at the playoffs this year and last year and come to any different conclusion.

Look at the 10 P5 teams in the playoffs this year:

Miami - Portal QB
Ole Miss - Portal QB
OSU - Portal QB
Oregon - Portal QB
Oklahoma - Portal QB
Indiana - Portal QB
Texas Tech - Portal QB

That's 7/10, and the 3 teams without a portal QB went a combined 1-3 in the playoff, none of them reaching the semifinals.

How about the 11 P5 teams in the playoff last year:
7/11 of them had portal QBs, 3/4 teams in the semis had portal QBs, and the national championship was portal QB vs. portal QB.

This is clearly the way going forward.

Yeah, so much for the bullshite coach speak about "pushing through adversity, and staying put to develop character."

That's clearly some boomer nonsense

This is the biggest cope of all time whenever you have a bad QB.

Bryce Young had a shite offensive line and won the Heisman.

The odds of making the playoffs with or without a transfer QB were practically the same in the SEC this season.

League wide, six teams recruited their QB. Two of them, or 33%, made the playoffs. League wide, ten teams had transfer QBs. Three of them, 30%, made the playoffs.

The odds were actually slightly worse of making the playoff if you had a transfer QB.

It’s DeBoer’s fault for not addressing the glaring issues with the OL and RBs that was obvious last season. He did NOTHING to fix the problem.
HS recruiting and portal acquisitions on both LOS is not up to snuff.

This is the dumbest attempt to use statistics I've ever seen.

Kiffin didn’t start Chambliss day 1. He got in after - checks notes - the guy already on the roster got hurt.

Good break for the Rebs.
