Hope you speak Spanish buddy, you're going to need it in the next 20 years. Mexicans are re-invading your home quicker than fire ants while you Southern hating, Yankee loving Texans just sit idly by and ponder about removing your Confederate statues and changing the names of your schools.

Depends on where you are in the history timeline.

The Goliad Massacre > The Alamo at the time

The Alamo > The Goliad Massacre today

The reason nobody left The Alamo is because Santa Anna had stated the previous year that the Texans would treated as rebels and pirates so escape from the Alamo (without being killed) was moot. Better to die in battle than to die in a firing line, and stabbed and clubbed if you survived the firing line.

I thank God for the rich culture, the culinary diversity, the determined hard work, and the spirit of adventure brought to my state by immigrants from Mexico and other countries in South America. So many entitled Americans would do well to demonstrate just a fraction of their hard work and determination.

Yeah, but we won our war.

So, there's that...

As a matter of fact, I do speak Spanish.

So do a lot of white people here. At least some.

Love our Tejanos hermanos. They're a part of our traditions and culture. They fought with us, bleed with us, and died with us.

Juan Seguín is one of Texas' greatest heroes. We've had a relationship with Mexico going back to the cattle barons of the Old West. The Vaquero traditions are uniquely Texan. Your rose in the ranks through grit and skill.

Basically, you had a lot of Irish and Scottish people that were tough as hell, who fought Mexicans and Native Americans -- the Comanche tribe being the horse lords and perhaps the fiercest tribe in the nation -- all coming together in the gene pool to create a bunch of people that hate governmental incursion and love to fight.

Hell, look at Charles Whitman in the 60's. People went back home and got their hunting rifles and started shooting back at him. Provided covering fire so two officers and a civilian could storm the clock tower and take him out.

That's the Texas way.

Texans' distrust of government is legendary. Our reliance on ourselves is the way it's always been. That's part and partial to our state pride.
