Does it haunt Arkansas fans to know that you had enough talent in 06 and 07 to win an SEC Championship and potentially a National Championship?.... afterall, you guys did beat the eventual NC/SEC Champs at their own house in 2007.

The 2nd year with GM as OC in 2007 could've been something similar to Auburn in it's 2nd year of GM in 2010... with McFadden playing the Cam role.

you don't recall all the drama? emails, banners flying, whole fanbase divided, etc etc. the petrino fiasco was nothing to me in comparison.

Nutt had a surprisingly strong support system while he was at Arkansas due to his accumulating a personality cult, perpetuated by the media and the AD's office, during his decade as coach. very few are saying anything is Gus's fault. Just that he was heavily involved in one of the stupidest fricking periods of Arkansas football history, and a lot of fans - even anti-Nutt ones - want a clean break from that era. old wounds and all that.

Didn't Mustain's Mommy go to Broyles demanding more playing time? Weak as shite there.

Also, that 10-1 start that year was all Nutt's offense if anyone watched those games. Saw little of Malzahns offense. Nutt was basically OC that year.

Real question, how would things have been different had Casey Dick not been injured at the start of the year and Mustain's could have taken a redshirt. Less drama. Probably would have sat most of his redshirt freshman year behind Dick and then played 3 full years at Arkie. Hell, Nutt might still be in Fayetteville

Arkansas had been to Atlanta two times and won the west 3 times before Arthur used Damien Williams, Mitch Mustain, and Ben Cleveland to land the OC job at Arkansas.

Arkansas was the first team not named Alabama to represent the west in the SEC CG then coached by Danny Ford.

The St. Gus spin begins.

He's not clean in all of that. Mitch was bratty and impatient. They didn't want to pay dues. They wanted everything immediately.

Hootie is right in that when you have the best player to ever come out of Arkansas at tailback and 2 other nfl caliber RB's you don't abandon a system that you have the roster for in favor of one that only 4 players are familiar with.

The whole thing was shenanigans and I'm glad it happened because it pushed Broyles and White out with Nutt. We're in a much better position now with Long and Bielema.

There is a big reason why Gus doesn't talk about his first year in college in detail.

He has been portrayed as a Saint by our fan base and this has spread to become "fact" when the truth shows there were not innocent by-standers, they all played a role in the clusterfrick that resulted, too many BIG egos at HC, OC, and DC that year....

Mustain was the better QB.

Gus was a better man than Nutt.

I refuse to draw equal signs.

I don't want nor did I ever want Gus as HC, but I'm not going to lump everybody together and pretend like they all shared equal blame for the clusterfrick.

I'm certainly not going to pretend like an 18 year old kid and a 50 year old millionaire should be judged by the same measuring stick.

Its called discernment and subtlety, but then again, this is football message boarding.....so maybe I should apply that myself.

No, Williams, Mustain, and Cleveland's parents met with Broyles about academic support promises that were made during recruiting that were not being upheld by the coach staff.

It wasn't until after Mustain was benched did the meeting come out (it occurred in September, Mustain was benched in November), Houston leaked the "meeting was for playing time, complaints about number of catches" after the benching turned against him in public opinion.

Recruit Mustain, Williams, Cleveland, and the WR that followed him to Tulsa then transferred back to Arkansas to sign.

He failed to sway the lineman that went to ND.

Gus didn't like being told to take that "high school shite" back to his house when he showed up with the flash cards he uses on the sidelines by Herring.
