Alabama schedules Charleston southern for crissakes

Notre Dame played at Clemson. Usc would kick a lot of sec teams arse like ole miss especially when the drunk coach left.

Hell the cupcakes nd scheduled are all rated. Navy, temple, etc

Sec teams schedule there fair share of cupcakes. They just try to hype playing Texas a&am is like playing the Green Bay packers. It's bs

6 is inherently bad, because byes would create a tremendous advantage for the top two. And no, I don't care if the NFL has byes.

4 is plenty. There will always be a team that feels left out. The more you expand the playoff the more you dilute the season.

If you aren't clearly one of the top 4 teams then you don't "deserve" a shot at the title.

The B1G and the Big 12 will merge soon. Leaving behind some of the shittier programs and you'll have a P4 where all power conference winners get in.

8 is too many. Makes the playoff system too much like the pros. Diminishes the regular season. Make it 6 with 2 byes and this thing is perfect.

I like a 4 team playoff because of situations like 2004, but we've never had 5 teams that were all unbeaten and all on equal footing. It just doesn't happen. Even though LSU lost to Alabama I would hate to live in an era where that game doesn't mean any more than the Patriots beating the Jets in week 9 of the NFL season.

4 is perfect

Needs to be 8. 5 power conference winners and 3 at large based on rankings.

It still doesn't answer the question

For all the people that just want four. What good would it do a conference to have a two loss division winner beat a 1 or 0 loss team in champ game. Why wouldn't you do everything in your power to assure that one loss team won?

It wouldn't do them any good. Conference title game officials (and all games really) should come from a national pool and not be dictated by the conferences. 2007 West Virginia-Pitt was arguably the most blatant instance of officiating bias i have ever seen for the exact reason you're talking about (WVU still lost the game )

Take that power out of the conference's hands.

Your argument doesn't hold water. Based on your logic, the number of losses are irrelevant. Based on your logic, the SEC would do everything in it's power to make sure that an undefeated, top ranked, and highly favored Alabama defeat a one loss east team ranked 10th, for example. You're alleging that the SEC would do something crooked to make sure the favored team won. If they would do it against a two loss team, they would do it against a one loss team.

Ditto, I think 8 will be the magic number, people will still bitch but I think with 8 you could afford to have your Memphises (assuming they ended the season undefeated) thrown in with the winners of the more dominant conferences.

Then you'd have similar Cinderella stories to what you find in the NCAA Bball tourny.

What? There are 100+ teams, so an 8 team playoff far from diminishes the regular season. I think it would also force teams to schedule tougher seasons because they wouldn't necessarily have to worry about 1 or 2 loss seasons like they do now. (assuming the committee picks based off of quality of team versus straight up record - ND/Bama)

I like it how it is. Giving every Power 5 conference a place is BS, some don't deserve a guaranteed spot.

I would like to see 5 teams.
The #1 gets a bye.

I know it will get there (and beyond) eventually, but 8 is too many. 6 would be perfect.

I can see 6 before 8. It does 2 things, it covers the committees butt, they can have the top 6 or 5 plus one worthy team and hear n bychin, plus the 6 vs. 3 and 4 vs 5 can be played on like the 19th to 21st. and it doesnt change the final 4 at all.

16 teams, all 10 conf champs get in and 6 at large (obviously would 99% of the time be power schools anyways). We need to stop all these dumb arguments about the regular season being diminished because that is a joke. Every other sport in history does decent sized playoffs but for some reason FBS college football has this terrible system that only will ever allow the same 20 big name teams at most with occasionally a wildcard to compete for a mythical championship. They need to hurry up and at least get to 8 teams.

As long as conference championship games are around, conference champs should not get an automatic bid to the playoff.
