I thought Florida kind of got hosed by some of the ticky tacky fouls the refs started calling at the end of the second half. Either let them play or call the fouls for the whole games.

We did get hosed by the refs, but that is no excuse for losing that game. They actually set the tone early and the fouls were way off so that we couldn't touch them but they were hammering Castleton down low with no calls. Also got called for palming and traveling a couple of times that were really ticky-tack imo. You have to fight through all that in the tourney and we did. Then we coughed it up down the stretch.

Not taking anything away from ORU, they made the shots and their 2 best players played all 40 minutes. That is toughing it out. They deserved the win.

I thought that FL was the more talented teams, but OR was the toughest.

I couldn't understand why Florida tried to milk the shot clock with a 10 point lead and 9 minutes to go. They were kicking ORU's butt and then let them catch 20 seconds of rest each possession . Unless you are a pro it is hard to run down the shot clock to 7 or 8 seconds before you run your offense and get a good shot. Florida gave the initiative away. Florida had the better talent and team and had everything to gain by playing uptempo. Maybe with 2 minutes to go and up 10 you work the clock but they started way too early IMHO it cost them the game.

I think he did that because our guards were tired. It is no excuse but we missed a lot of games this season and I don't think we had very good lungs and one of our guards was also out. I also wanted to stay up tempo.

Not an excuse because ORU's 2 best players both played all 40 minutes, but they seemed to have more in the tank than we did.

Just a possible reason why White slowed it down. We got out-played and out-coached though, so no excuses, ORU earned the victory.

This is it in a nut shell. When we were running our offence in the first half we were dominating. Then in typical Mike White fashion he takes his foot off the gas and the guys start playing playground ball. Running down the shot clock and forcing the ball into where there is no room and boom a turn over.

BINGO!!
It was one of the worst coaching jobs that I can remember....totally White's fault.

Eh, when you have 23 free throws to 9 it's pretty easy to just admit that basketball refs have way too much control over the games. Which is why I don't even get upset about it anymore.

Football kind of has the same thing where the refs can take the game over (holding or pass interference calls) but it's no where close to as egregious as basketball.

It's a fairy sport, anyway. But they would have given them 30 free throws if it would have helped the Cinderella story.

However, Mike White taking his foot off of the gas was way worse than anything the refs could have done. Ron Zook levels of Prevent Defense.
