Or at least it is in the process of falling.

2025 will mark the final LA Bowl, referred to this year as the Bucked Up LA Bowl.

FTR, the game will have had four different names in five years.

Another bowl game on it's way out is one that was mildly interesting to watch due to its exotic location and to see a game where there were more on the sideline than in the stands, the Bahama Bowl which this year is not being played in the Bahamas but at an indoor location, the Ford Center located in Frisco, TX under a new name, the XBox Bowl. It is also one of 17 bowls owned by ESPN

So for all of you who bitched about postseason games not part of the CFP being meaningless, here you go, the beginning of the collapse of the bowl games.

It took a few programs (Notre Dame, Kansas State, Iowa State et al) to be sacrificial lambs and decide not to play this year but it worked.

I have said all along the bowl system was overdue for a correction being little more than a conduit for select individuals to exploit college football as way to enrich themselves and if the colleges would stand up to them there could be real change (i.e. the money might actually flow to the colleges instead of the people on the various bowl committees).

Weed out some of the "meaningless" bowls and the ones that remain should see an uptick in interest. Fans will have fewer postseason games to watch and if enough of them fold 5-7 teams won't be rewarded with an extra game and the requisite practice time.

Adios LA and Bahama bowls, we won't miss you.

Set up the p4 and G5 each with their own 12 team playoff yearly. Include some kind of relegation and promotion system so if you’re someone in p4 going 2-10 however long in a row JMU or Tulane takes your place.

This would likely be hard as hell to get in place logistically but is the best outcome for all involved

They’ll just move them to the start of the season.

Yes, all of us remember when esteemed poster JacieNY brought this up all those times since he joined last year. We were laughing then, but now he has been vindicated.

In practical terms what does that mean exactly? Starting the season a week, two weeks, three weeks earlier than Week 0 does now?

I don't see how scheduling them during what is the regular season is going to gain traction as we have already heard the grumbling from fans over the neutral site games that are currently played in the opening weekends.

Teams want their home games during the season, cannot see them giving those up especially at the cost incurred by the school to go play one of these exhibitions.

Wait, is it too late to sell my tickets to the Bacardi Bowl? I will throw in the Pan Am plane tickets on their beautiful new twin prop luxury flight to Cuba!

16 team playoff. 1st and 2nd rounds on campus. Semifinal and final at “BCS bowls”

Have a 2nd playoff. Players get NIL money for playing each round. 16 teams all games at the bowl sites.

The other 20 something bowls go away. CUSA and Mountain West relegated to FCS. Outlaw P4 teams playing FCS. Top G5 champ to the main playoff. All the other G5 champs to the NIL Playoff.

CFP selection committee replaced by computer rankings that actually account for strength of schedule. Teams are ineligible for playoff without a P4 nonconference opponent. Conference championships for P4 schools go away.

I believe the bowls will replace the Kick Off Classics.

Teams will schedule OOC opponents and travel to neutral sites

Bowls will be forced to go to teams and offer them the opportunity to play.

I like bowls, I played in one in HS and it was fun but all of them need to be outside of the playoff.

I guess my disdain for the season-opening neutral site games stems from OU being in one and it completely derailed the season.

Playing BYU at Jerry World starting QB Sam Bradford was lost for the season with a dislocated shoulder.

Without him Oklahoma went 8-5 when the Sooners were expected to contend for the title.

I don't mind home and away series with any team but no more of those one off games played to benefit some stadium nowhere near either school.
