Who wins it first? What might it look like? Any special symbolism in choosing Irvin? Wait, is that where the first championship game will be played?

I get that they want to show it is a new era of college football, but there was nothing wrong with the crystal football. It should have stayed the "main" trophy.

Because it's a new era and the playoff deserves it's own trophy. Crystal ball trophy will still be awarded by the AFCA.
