The death of bowl games started long before the playoff.

30 years ago, in 1995-96, pre-BCS, there were 18 Bowl games.

This year, there are 35 Bowl Games, not counting the bowl games included in the College Football Playoff.

This is your coach. I’d be a lot more worried about this than LSU if I were you.

When they started putting every 6-6 and even 5-7 team in shitty bowl games, it just turned into a complete joke. ESPN is a total whore for any sponsor that wants to slap their name on one of these games.

Yup, and truly the only thing that’s worse than a football game between 5-7 or 6-6 teams is the awful D list commentators on the call.

When the playoffs expand to 24

I am sure this is being discussed in some circles, but don't know if those are real circles of influence.

24 means 5 rounds of playoff games. With a 12 game regular season schedule and a conference championship game (should they still exist), you are looking at a potential 18 games for a team. That's unlikely, but 16 would be commonplace. That's a hell of a lot of games to keep a team healthy.

People here scream about “DEI football” as it relates to auto qualifiers, but bowl games for 6-6 and 5-7 teams are the real DEI football.

It began years ago actually.

The bowl games will go away. And the same stupid frickers who cheer this on are also bitching that it's happening. It's pretty wild.

Yep. They are bitching about too many bowl games and when they take them away they'll be bitching about "where did all muh bowl games go?". If you want to watch them do, if not don't. I'm not bitching about more football, when we are a month away from having to wait 9 months until it's back. People just love to bitch now, and I'm bitching about them bitching.

I've said it every since the expanded CFP was announced. The "lower" bowls should be the early round playoff games. For example, Okie and Bama could be playing in the Birmingham bowl...

Most of the players are underclass men. If they get hurt, they have plenty of time to rehab in the offseason. The upperclassmen and NFL draft eligible players aren’t going to be the ones playing anyways

.... which lowers the quality of play even more, accelerating the death spiral. Remember when FSU fielded that team of scrubs after their snub?

Interesting. Replace bowl game with glorified scrimmage type of game,

Did you think this through before posting?

Why would anyone want to play these meaningless exhibition games anymore and risk injury or worse?

The same can be said for conference championship games

Yeah the Conference Championship game will not last long with 9 game reg season. You are subjecting your two best teams to a 10th physical game and a week less of rest. It just isnt sustainable for rosters in this new era

Just adopt the FCS model and be done with it. You fix the problems of opt outs for players and now teams

The Big Ten wants 28. The ACC and Big 12 are on board. Its going to expand to either 16, 24 or 28/32 in the next couple years.

Birmingham has Georgia Southern but can't find them an opponent.

Appalachia State (5-7)

There was some scrambling but the bowls are set for this year.

As for the OP's assertion, I am on board with trimming them down to something more, IDK what word I am looking for here, competitive?
Entertaining? Whatever.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy college football season but the bowls IMO make a mockery of it.

Dial it back, addition through subraction!
