The fact that this isn’t alarmingly cringey to other Christians is mind boggling to me.
We see eye-to-eye, as we usually do.
That dude in the OP wasn't praying for God to be "glorified." He was praying for Clemson to win out, which they might TBH

I didn't claim he didn't exist. I said IF there was an actual god. I don't care if there is or isn't a god. There's nothing I learned about the Christian God growing up that leads me to believe he cares one iota about college football. Just so we are clear, the prayer in the OP asks God to allow Clemson to "overcome the mistakes."
This is the equivalent of me praying for the Ole Miss secondary and asking God to allow them to overcome their mistakes when they take poor angles to the ballcarrier.
The prayer also asks God to "bring unity" to the Clemson fanbase.
It's cringey becuase if God is truly almighty, omnipresent, alpha and omega, etc., whether Clemson plays mistake free football or Clemson fans have disagreements about the state of their football program is beyond trivial.
That's the cringey part about it. That was the point of the OP. Yes, it's cringey. Yes, it's weird. No, God doesn't care if Clemson plays mistake free football. No, you shouldn't earnestly pray for your team to play mistake free football or your fanbase to be unified in their thoughts about the program.

Thank you.
I truly didn’t know I needed to include a full blown explanation for the cringe factor when I posted it. I’m honestly a bit mind blown that there was even a discussion about it.

These are the same people who will accuse you of being "anti semite" if you're against endless war in the Middle East
yeah, if you don't support genocide of whoever Benjamin Netenyahu declares war on, you're an anti-semite, even if you're in support of Palestinian Christians who are persecuted by Israel
I got led down a bad path at the bar one night, some dude who's kind of an aquaintence I guess went off because I said Israel is corrupt. When I quoted Galatians 3:29 to him he went off saying "Galatians? Isn't that in the Old Testament?"
Then I asked him how many people on Earth he believes have Jewish blood since there were only 200K on the earth during Abraham's time? He looked away and mumbled some psychobabble from who knows what "pastor" or "reverend" and didn't want to talk to me anymore
Fine with me
I got off on a tangent, but these Clemson cult people are many of the same people

quote:I'm an outspoken Christian and have seen a lot of attacks on the Christian faith over the years. I didn't interpret the OP as an attack. I understood that, to him, it was cringey. I just disagreed.
I think they are too busy being offended by the perceived attack on their faith (which is far, far from what this thread is about) to understand that - regardless of how many times it gets posted.

I doubt Jesus cares about their football games.
that's right
or better yet in fact, Jesus wants them/us to rid their/our lives of pride
pride is arguably the worst sin, and if we take notice of it in day to day life, we will come to understand why

No human does the converting. That is wholly the job of God's Holy Spirit. We are merely the messengers speaking forth the truth of the Gospel.

Yeah, great job. Thanks for your work, which was so humbly presented and I’m sure was well received.
