Ultimately, Alabama has plenty of normal, rational fans that represent the school well. My hatred really didn't develop until I encountered trashy, awful Alabama fans with no obvious connection to UA who truly thought that somehow their life was more fulfilling or that they were superior on account of something Bear Bryant did before they were born.
This is exactly the group I'm talking about when I mention segments of fans intensifying the rivalry. The rivalry would be pretty calm if not for them.

I agree completely.

Well, it wouldn't be calm behind the scenes. Rich guys on both sides would still be paying people to dig for dirt on the other rich guys. But nobody would know about it because it would never be in the public eye.
Harvey and Co. are just too dumb to do it that way.

I love my university - I'm paying to put a 5th generation UA student through school as we speak (Thank you AUBURN grad Tim Cook for rocking my Apple stock)!!
but we don't know what you guys do or how you think about stuff.

Eh, doesn't really work like that. Most of us who think God loves Auburn more are, in fact, connected to Auburn.
Our bad fans are just like yours, there are just far fewer of them.

That's great and all, but how does our choice to vocalize it to each other bother you? I don't see why it should.

See, I have envy for a couple of things your instition has and I can admit it. That Toomers lemonade is the best stuff I've ever drank in my entire life and that eagle flying over the field is cool as shite IMO. I also think that new Arena is badass and I wish Bama had one. I almost forgot - I'm envious as hell of Bruce.
Ok, I envy the better music scene in ttown and your law school.

Not really, on either count. Your bad fans are just as bad as ours, but they're different. Our idiots seem to have anger issues, while yours seem to be leftovers from the Jim Jones situation.

all fans are the same, really simple concept that most fail to grasp

I don't understand why our being vocal about our alma mater bothers you or any other Bama grad. And honestly, I've never given a moments thought on whether a UA grad loves bama.

What? It's a false concept, so that's probably why most fail to grasp it.
You can generalize, and say all fan bases have some bad characters, which is true, but that doesn't mean they're all the same.
I don't think Panthers fans are the same as Philly fans. I don't think demure Alabama housewife fans are the same as Manchester United ultras.

The people who kill me are the ones who identify people by the team they support.
Idiots are idiots. Regardless of their fan affiliation.

Murders are murderers. Who they cheer for on Saturday has nothing to do with it.

I disagree, but I will say it's generally unfair to hold the psychos against the institution at large.
