Yea, he made a pretty blanket statement. As usual in this silly argument.

Well, how is that different from 99% of the posts on this board when it pertains to another school or its fanbase?

because rob pate says so?

If you can't/won't admit that this type of mindset towards Auburn people's relationship with their University vs Alabama people's relationship with their University is prevalent amongst Auburn people then there really isn't anything to discuss.

The tone of this whole thing sort of hearkens to a creepy, cultish David Housel rant to be honest.

I would have stopped at Rob Pate.

Maybe so, but I've met him and found him to be a swell guy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Column doesn't change my opinion of him, but I guess I'll never get the mindset that Auburn fans seem to have that their college experience was exponentially superior to everyone else's college experience, thus giving them a more virtuous love of their alma mater.

Oh well, it seemed pretty obvious to me you don't fall into that category.

Do we just need to agree he says stupid shite, is that what this is about...because if so, we have an accord, matey.

Pat Dye said it best 30 years ago IMO.

Alabama fans love the football team.

Auburn fans love Auburn.

I don't care how many times Auburn people proclaim whatever it is they try to proclaim, Alabama will always be the Universeteh, and AU will be the cow college.

God love em, though.

I have to admit I'd buy Housel lunch to hear him read that thing with that bizarre nasally voice of his.

Yea, we all really like auburn. We could all be wrong and it's not that great of a place. But us thinking it shouldn't really rub people wrong the way it does.

Those don't get published to the front page of a CBSSports affiliated website. Big difference.

Well the thread is about an overall mindset that exists in the minds of a lot of people and the focal point of that mindset came through in an article by Rob Pate.

I think there is something to Pate's statements but I'm not going to endorse all of it.

Yes, Auburn people have a romanticized view of Auburn that comes from being the underdog in a lot of scenarios. We've generally been the school in the state you had to WANT to be a fan of. You have to endure a lot of shite from the majority of other Alabamians and do it without a lot of football success to trump them with.

We're a tight knit bunch. We're pretty ideologically similar. As fans we try to do things in a hospitable and reasonable way, and over the years that has been recognized by a lot of people outside our community. Not all of us fit that mold, but a lot of us do or strive to fit it.

Now all of that may sound similar to what you guys do, but we don't know what you guys do or how you think about stuff. It's for us, it's not fabricated to feel superior to anyone else. I'm sure some will use this to take the sting out of a loss, but it's also pretty lame and narcissistic to assume we War Eagle our fellow AU people as some sort of slight toward people who beat us on the football field. It's not a coping mechanism either, at least for me.

I guess my conclusion on this matter is that I think it is great Auburn people love Auburn. Seriously, it is. It's this weird fascination with one-upping every other school and their alums by proclaiming the Auburn experience better and more meaningful that makes people scratch their heads (especially when someone who went to Auburn has no idea what another campus experience is like).

That's all.

Meh, it was a strawman to begin with. So his point was always bullshite from the start. I mean it's common knowledge how those NC appeared, it's not as if I said anything untruthful.

I give zero fricks about UA, and my post history will reflect that. I have zero envy for your team or institution.
See, I have envy for a couple of things your instition has and I can admit it. That Toomers lemonade is the best stuff I've ever drank in my entire life and that eagle flying over the field is cool as shite IMO. I also think that new Arena is badass and I wish Bama had one. I almost forgot - I'm envious as hell of Bruce.
