By all means, tell me what is objectionable about that comment.

That loving things about your school other than football makes you different? Um, that maybe?

You honestly think the majority of alumns of other schools in the SEC don't feel that way? I mean, are you serious?

It just cracks me up when I hear some kid from Alpharetta or Woodstock that didn't care the first thing about Auburn until he was 17 and didn't get in to UGA try and tell me how his love of Auburn is just different and about more than football compared to my love of Alabama, a campus I (and others) visited and dreamed about being at since we were 4 years old.

I'm guessing this has probably never actually happened to you.

That's part of it really. They love that "Auburn" sounds like a private school even though it's not.

Like an unspoken fantasy that even they probably don't talk about. It's just in the air.

I think that's it. Fantasy.

Happened about 4 hours ago, actually.

But love of Alabama is easy love, cheap love, lazy love. The enormity of their sidewalk alumni proves this point.

So does this cheapen the love of Bama shown by actual Bama grads or what?

Don't remind them of the trailers or the fact that Auburn was bigger than Alabama until a few years ago

I didn't go to Alabama, so unlike some, I won't pretend to know how you think.

I know how I perceive you to think but I could be wrong.

Then you, sir, are in an extreme minority.

The implied argument here is that other fanbases aren't like this, that they only care about football. Classic Aubs.

Rational adults that attended these schools value them for more than just the athletics, however the athletics allow us a very direct way to cheer for our alma maters.

But yeah, Auburn fans/alumni are probably the only group that value their university.

Auburn - content to always live in a shadow, as long as they measure up every once in a while. Everything revolves around Bama.

What? You guys want that to be true so badly. Why is that?
Well, when one of you former players (Rob Pate) does a write up like the one in the OP it kinda reinforces the AU way of thinking and he sure mentions Bama a lot.......

I do like a lot of things about auburn that aren't related to football. I can only guess I'm lying to myself?

You realize that doesn't make you or your school different, right?

Maybe you guys should get out more.

In all seriousness, it's such an elitist mindset that Auburn people have.

Lulz.. That's great coming from the school that fabricates NC and then slaps them on anything that will hold writing to show the world how much better they are.

Stick that chest out, walk proud.

I didn't say it made me different to you. Let me break it down for you sequentially:

1) The poster scoffed at the idea we would be optimistic or engage in camaraderie after a loss.

2) I said to him, that we do it because it's just a game, and that maybe he is different if he doesn't feel like that.

The end. Nothing to do with your affection for Alabama, but you're so quick to make fricking absurdly overbroad and pejorative statements about Auburn people that you don't take the time necessary to comprehend what the actual comment was about.

How is that ridiculous?

The action itself isn't ridiculous. Acting like it is unique to Auburn when it isn't and acting like every Auburn fan lives up to these tenets is absolutely ridiculous.

Not talking about you in particular. Talking about the quote in the OP

Have I said it was unique?

You think other schools don't like their institutions for anything other than football?

Football makes up a small percent of my experience at UA. A very small percent.

See. That's exactly what we're talking about. Alabama has a lot of National Championships to be proud of. Auburn doesn't. So you pretend ours are phony. And the only reason Bama is better is because of lies and conspiracies
