We've changed the definition of a championship team from one that was a very consistent winner throughout the season and won the last game to one that is the best at the end of the season. Those are 2 very different teams.

Before 1965 the definition of the best team was one ranked highest before the bowl game. The next year it was the highest ranked team after the bowl game. The definition has changed several times since.

You can't say a team was cheated out of the championship in prior years because we changed the definition of a champion later. That's a loser argument.

None.

Just because a taem that would have been left out previously wont his year, doesn't mean squat for prior years. All you've done is take elimination games and move them from the regular season to the playoffs.

If w had the 4 team playoff Ohio State's loss to Michigan would have eliminated them and absolutely nobody would have complained about Ohio State missing the playoffs, even Ohio State fans. They wouldn't have deserved ot make it.

But this year the system allowed for them to make it and they are taking advantage of the opportunity.

Previously the regular season was the playoff. In the BCS era a single loss was very likely to kill you. In the 4 team playoff one loss put you at a little risk and 2 losses killed you.

IN this new system going 10-2 in a major conference gets you in.

So all you've done is shift "elimination games" from the regular season tot he playoffs.

Other than tennis, there does not exist a skill sport where the “best” team/player will consistently win a multi round elimination tournament.
You need to think of the season and playoff as two separate events like they do in every other sport now. There is no best, only a CFP champ.

None, this is a tournament, the champion will be a Tournament Champ, not the best team, nor shohld anyone think they are the best team in the country.

We need to go back to the BCS, these knuckledragger playoff lovers can go back to watching the NFL

That's how they were seeded but Notre Dame is ranked #3 and Ohio State is ranked #6 in the AP Poll.

The best teams on paper got in under the old system. Under the new system, games actually matter.

Gonna piss off a lot of people with this, but I'd go with 2011 Oklahoma St. Geez that was hard to say.

I still think he made that FG. It was kicked way above the pole and directly over the upright. That one ref decided their fate. Impossible to review as it was just air. Ref determined it would have nicked the upright if the pole extended that far up. Still, a judgment call by 1 and only 1 person.

The truth of the matter is that list would take a small book to cover. We think of Bama as the favored child of college football but Bear Bryant was denied a few national titles in his prime because of a strong Midwest/West Coast bias. Auburn has some strong claims. Hell, back in our glory days Arkansas got robbed and we've only got a 57% win/loss record.

The thing is... most halfway decent football programs have had teams that might have mopped the floor with higher ranked teams in a playoff. North Dakota State won the FCS championship this year with two losses on their schedule. Half of their 18 national titles came in seasons where they lost 1 or more games, including a season where they lost 2 and tied 1.

The Ivy League won a whole slew of national title back when their teams rarely played anyone outside of the Northeast. USC has some titles from seasons they only played one, or maybe two, good teams. The sports writers got caught up in a "magical" season by BYU where they beat one ranked team and clinched their national title by beating a 6-6 Michigan team in a bowl game. There are too many what if scenarios to cover.

ASU and Boise were also 3 and 4. So really it's the #5 and #6 team. 12 team is fine just knock it off with the CCG autobye nonsense

2000 (Miami should have gotten in)
2004 (Auburn should have gotten in)
2011 (Kirk Herbstreet takes Saban’s cock out ESPN’s arse and puts it in his mouth for the foreseeable future)

You're using flawed polling to back up a poling error.

The team that is going to win the title lost 2 games, including a home game to a 5 loss team in the last game of the regular season.

What are you talking about

How many hot teams that won 89 games would have won the World Series from 1920 to 1996?

The systems reward different things.

I am talking about they earned their way into the Tourney and have won their way to the NC game.

We had previous NC's, under the four team format, that didn't even win their own Division. Do you really think that team deserved the opportunity?

ETA that team was gifted an opportunity because of the name on the front of their jersey and their roster on paper..............not by their in-season accomplishments.

ETA to the ETA Which team exactly was going to be the undefeated NC this year?

It’s going to 16 teams sooner than later and no message board griping will change that.
