Texas didn’t spend in the Fall portal, but it will likely change in the Spring portal.

Looks like a lot of Sark’s players have declared for the NFL draft in the past week.

Agree, Texas will be a larger player in the Spring. They will have a better grasp of who all went pro. I think they are trying to retain some guys who NIL right now. I think it could also mess with team chemistry if you are signing portal transfers during the playoff. Guys can start to question their future.

Dear new guy/gal. They will end up top 5. It's a 4 quarter game in recruiting also.

We’re starting to see all of Sarks down falls as a HC. You have to play recruiting and the portal in modern college football. Maybe there’s a reason he got fired from USC and Washington hint hint.
“He’s not a good HC” said a very wise man

How did Texas do this past season compared to LSU?

We don’t really have a prior history of throwing huge bags at portal guys. Our only competition for Quinn was Texas Tech, and they offered an equally competitive NIL deal. Isiah Bond is probably our most notable transfer, but the staff had a relationship with him already. I think Sarks philosophy is spend most of our budget in the highschool ranks and supplement with veteran under the radar portal guys that can help bring them along.

Texas has never really had success snagging the highly ranked portal guys

That’s cause the shine wears off once out of high school.

Man Arch is going to get killed next year. Hope Texas has a good back up.

Losers tend to fill rosters with transfers. It is one thing plug a few holes with 5 or so, like Texas or Bama or Georgia, or to overhaul a roster after a coaching change as Vandy did well last year, but building a team for the long haul in the portal is a bad strategy. One good option is to reinvest in current players who have proven they are worth the money.

Whatever will poor Texas do.

It amuses me that people think the portal ranking matters.

2025 Overall Football Team Rankings

Texas is #1 when you include both recruits and transfers.

Recruiting players that fit the team's system. What matters is the results on the field.
Sark recruits players that fit the culture first. Everybody says that.

Michael Taaffe was an AP All American and the highest rated safety by PFF. He is coming back to Texas.

A dozen players have already announced they are entering the NFL draft. Only 1 or 2 are 'surprises", RB & WR, and not really surprises given the years they had/draft grades they received. Most of the 2024 #2 players that were penciled in as "2025 starters" are coming back.

Of the guys that transferred out, almost all are going to P5 schools, not smaller schools and Junior Colleges. That means they were putting in the work at Texas, they just weren't getting a lot of playing time.

Of the 24 HS recruits in Texas' #1 class, 20 of them are Early Enrollees and will go through spring practice with the team. Graduating HS early is a good indicator of character.

This is similar to the last 2 classes, and gives Texas enough players in the spring to have 2 full 11 v.11 scrimmages. They don't just need bodies like a lot of teams.

The only transfers Texas has taken this year have proven production on the field. Now that the roster numbers are known, filling in the last few pieces from the portal are position specific, DT & WR.

The portal rankings don't include roster retention.

Texas is replacing a lot of 2024 starters, but the returning talent on the 2025 team compares favorably to 2024, which also replaced a lot of the 2023 starters.

I regret to inform you that there is another signing window after spring ball for which they are going to eat $$$.
