This said, many of us in Texas do recognize and appreciate the contributions by those from Tennessee. But Davy Crockett could only have dreamed of having 30K volunteers for the military from Tennessee there with him.
We are talking a lot about Crockett, but Sam Houston's childhood home is about 15 miles from Knoxville.
We dropped in on it driving back from Knoxville to from the Smokies.
He had a pretty extensive life there before moving to Texas after his political career started to fade.

Most engineers are smart, and Nuclear Engineers are really smart. TVA was very impressive, it's nice to be wanted.
TVA Small Modular Reactor is approved to be built on the Clinch River Nuclear Site (originally was supposed to be the Clinch River Breeder Reactor that was scrapped before completion in the early 1980s). Also have Project Infinity, which is transforming a fossil plant (also on the Clinch River) to a Fusion Reactor (Stellarator Design). But...February will still be cold.

Tennessee sent 30,000 volunteers to fight in Mexico to keep them from reclaiming Texas.
President James K. Polk, a Tennessean, requested a 2,800 volunteer-soldier quota for Tennessee in the Mexican-American War in 1846. Instead, 30,000 Tennesseans offered their services, solidifying Tennessee as the "Volunteer State." Volunteers would serve in the newly formed 1st and 2nd Tennessee Infantry Regiments and a contingent of dragoons.
The regiments fought at Monterey, Mexico, and during an assault on Fort Teneria, an enemy bastion guarding the city. It was here the 1st Tennessee earned the nickname, "Bloody First." Both Tennessee regiments would see combat in Vera Cruz, Cerro Gordo and other battles in the Mexico City campaign.
The Mexican-American War followed the 1845 American annexation of Texas, which Mexico still considered its territory because it refused to recognize the Treaties of Velasco, signed by President Antonio López de Santa Anna after he was captured by the Texian Army during the 1836 Texas Revolution.

Bo French, the politician who made the comment about the Indian students at the Texas game, is about my age. I got my Bachelor's degree at Texas in the late 80s/early 90s. Even back then, there were a lot of Indian & Asian students at Texas. Texas is the most academically presitigous university in the state, and families in those communities put a high priority on education.
Why doesn't Bo French know that there were a lot of Indian students back then? Because Bo French was too stupid to get into Texas. He had to go to TCU, back when that school took anyone and everyone.
Who is upset about Indian & Asian students at Texas? Stupid white people, like Bo French. The parents of smart white kids have no issues. Dumb people, and people with dumb kids, need to quit being angry...and perhaps they should give some consideration to working hard and studying.
