No one cares about rowing or women’s volleyball or tennis, etc. They care about FOOTBALL and 1/3 as much about men’s basketball. That’s about it. The amount of interest in the other sports is minuscule in comparison.
Even the Presidents have to bow to football only when conference realignment is contemplated. It’s the ONLY sport that matters. That’s why Kansas BB does them no good, they are just like Houston or Memphis or Louisville, nor does UCONN men’s or women’s BB really matter, and so on. No one wants those programs because they!re nothing in football.
As far as all sports trophies, 95% of college sports fans have no clue who won the all-sports trophy last year. Who wants Stanford with their historically great all-around sports program - they are barely tagging along in the ACC, who didn’t really want them but will allow them to travel back and forth the 3000 mi so they can play with the almost big boys. No one in the SEC cares about UF’s great all-sports legacy, they are interested in UF because they’ve won 3 NCs in football in the last 30 years and still have potential.
The only fans that care about all-sports trophies are those who fail in football and have nothing else to assuage their disappointment. Even men’s BB helps only a little.
