Another strange thing: because A&M was on probation, they were ineligible for the SWC title, so the SWC has 5 co-champions for 1994 (only a 9 team conference), and Texas Tech, who was 6-5 played in the Cotton Bowl - since they had not played in the game since 1939.

Not to mention you had undefeated and #2 Penn State obligated to play in the Rose Bowl against an Oregon who didn't even become ranked until November.

That was the last year of all the old bowl tie-ins.

finished 7th in the AP poll, because they tied SMU and a very weak SWC at the time

All of the bowls, yes, but the B1G/PAC Rose Bowl tie ins lasted until the 1998 season.

Its wild that the '93 IB was not televised. Sounds dumb typing it out, but I think it'd be neat for a big game like that to not be televised in 2023. You either have to be in attendance, or listen on the radio. Would be a crazy contrast to the current world we live in.

Must be why Austin is one of the fastest growing cities in America with an academic institution ranked in the top 10 of public universities while A&M and CS are not in the same stratusphere.

Why did TAM not win the national championship that year.

They sold their shot at a title back then so they can say "well since 1975 we're even with tee ewe hurr durr" today.

This was my sophomore year.

Slocum's teams were an incredibly frustrating thing back then. He had some of the very best talent in the land, as evidenced by a crazy number of NFL draft picks during his tenure. He played incredibly conservatively, however, and the team would simply take games off against inferior opponents. We barely beat a 1-10 SMU team the next year.

That was a pretty bad LSU squad that year and we barely eked out a win in Baton Rouge.

The SWC was on its arse back then and most regional powers were in a funk. OU sucked, LSU was in a hole, Texas was mediocre.

We would flex on the crappy Texas competition and then either lose close games or get rolled in the Cotton Bowl.

And then came Bob Stoops and Mack Brown and Nick Saban and those great Nebraska squads starting cornholing R.C.'s teams when we joined the Big 12 and he was finally put out of his misery.

Texas fans like to forget that they got busted for cheating quite often back then as well.

And yes . . .despite all the Longhorn sense of entitlement the series has been basically .500 for nearly five decades.

Leaning hard on pre-WW2 and the Nixon era is a cherished Longhorn tradition.

Austin is becoming a liberal hell hole. Went to my nieces graduation from UT last year. Without a doubt my last visit.

From 1945 on, Texas leads the series is 44-22-1.

From 1975-95, A&M won 14 of 20 games. That's the only run you had and it's marred by cheating scandal, culminating in the No-TV-No-Bowl season that is the subject of this thread.

The only success A&M has ever had occurred when they cheated like hell.

Why did they not play Nebraska that year (1994)? I figured they played every year.
No offense, but how old are you?
