They are working toward their stated goal of having the easiest path to the playoffs (a/k/a building a conference of one globetrotter and 9 georgia generals), which is directly in conflict with creating a home schedule worth more than a squirt of piss.
Horrible business partners, and even worse business people.

Why does lesterthehorn even post here? He is the dumbest, most clueless poster on this board next to oman.

Some Aggie fans are not going to like this...
Negotiations are already underway. Scuttlebutt is around the 2020 season.
Personally, as some others have posted, I thought I would miss this game. But in reality, I don't. Unfortunately though, it looks like it is going to happen.
Very unlikely to be at the end of the season. I don't have any specifics there, but I know Slive gave Texas 3 years to come to their senses before making moves to put A&M-LSU on Thanksgiving week. I am not sure of the stance of the new commissioner, but I would guess he is not a fan of losing rights to half a game on Thanksgiving weekend as we already have other games in that situation (Carolina/Clemson, Florida/FSU, Georgia/G Tech). If Slive were still commissioner, I would say there would be 0% chance of it being Thanksgiving. But with the new commish, who knows.
Additionally, been hearing of maybe a "neutral" site game between the two possibly as soon as the '18 season. But those sources have been unreliable in the past.

Why should we believe this?

The SEC actually set up the TAMU/LSU and Arkansas/Missouri games with this in mind. We all know that if TAMU and tu renew, then Missouri and Kansas are likely to renew as well. Put those games on rivalry week and then put LSU/Arkansas back on that week as well.
It is actually very simple scheduling and the SEC was smart to build the schedules this way.

It all hinges on Big12 expansion
With 3 OOC games, no way this game gets played, as Texas has too many marque OOC games scheduled
With 4 OOC games due to 12/14 Big12 team league, very possible game gets renewed

No
There's no benefit to playing Texas. We beat them and it's "ho hum, you handled a team you were supposed to beat." We lose and it's treated like a massive event.
Plus we really don't need to add another quality opponent on our annual schedule. If and when Texas returns, it would make our schedule absurdly difficult. The horns wouldn't have that problem because they play a bunch of shite teams in conference. And don't tell me about Florida-Florida State -- the Gators play in the east.

I think the idea was to give every SEC team a compelling rivalry week game, despite the butthurtedness of Kansas and the fricking longhorns. I don't think the intent was anything further than that. We assumed that the games were gone for good.
I hope they are.

They aren't gone for good. I can't speak for Missouri and Kansas. But at some point the TAMU/tu rivalry will return. Who knows if it will be on rivalry week or not, but it will return.
Anyone that doesn't understand this is fooling themselves.

No one cares about the wins you racked up during the thirty years A&M was decimated by WW2, Korea and Vietnam.
The point is that A&M would've been favored in every single game between 2012 and 2016. Beating you would've been (and still is) expected. Hence there's no benefit it in playing the game.

They still play OU yearly.

In my lifetime, the series is tied at 17.

OU is a neutral site game. Their home schedule has one quality opponent.
Posted on 9/8/16 at 11:35 am to cjohn
I don't see it being possible until the A&M/Arky contract w/JerryWorld is done. As long as we are stuck w/playing there it makes it extremely hard to play more than one P5 a year due to home and away scheduling issues. Gotta have at least 7 home games a year to pay off the expansion.

Why must this game return? Who is forcing it?

So wildcat boy has the scoop. The A&M AD doesn't want to get fired. No way he doesn't have some polls conducted before even broaching this issue.
It isn't happening in this decade. We are very happy with our schedule as it is.
