Upon exiting the Big XII, R. Bowen Loftin, then president of Texas A&M said that he was all for the Aggies playing the Longhorns in football "anytime, anywhere". They wanted no part of continuing the series at that time. That's what they chose.
A&M moved on.

It makes sense though. Despite tamu’s chest beating about “any time, anywhere,” the university elected to withdraw from the Big12 to avoid living in the shadow of The University of Texas (and avoid suffering the annual beat downs on Thanksgiving weekend).
