Can someone go into the intricacies of why they refuse to play each other in FB? I’m sure both teams blame the other for not playing.

One great rivalry gone because two schools can’t sack up and play each other.
If they had their heads on straight, they’d meet in a bowl game every year. I’d rather watch an 10-2 aggy vs a 6-6 horn ( or vice versa) than aggy play some ACC school while horn plays a big 10 school.
I feel the same way about Mizz-Kansas and other rivalries we don’t get to see.

I’m sure there is more to it but it seems like both schools are terrified of losing the game more than being excited to win the game.

Auburn and Alabama didn't play for 40 years. We are in year 10.

A&M was supposed to play them in the Cotton Bowl after the 2012 season. Both Mack Brown and DeLoss Dodds told the Cotton Bowl they would refuse to play if A&M was the opponent.
Sumlin called off the dogs on Oklahoma in the 4th quarter (was 41-13 early 4th). If it was t.u. it may have been worse than 77-0.

Also after the 2019 season both teams had the same record and they still couldn’t get them lined up in the Texas Bowl. Seems like there are some larger forces at play trying to prevent it from happening. The new ADs may be able to change it hopefully. It’s a great rivalry.

Despite what either side claims, that has zero to do with it.
In a nutshell:
- UTex is the jilted lover.
- A&M wants no part of making the horns’ schedule any more appealing.
But mostly: Both schools despise each other.

The amount of hate is what drives a strong rivalry. Just feels like CFB fans are robbed every year.

I'll keep it real simple.
We left. They got pissed and refused to continue it when we offered to.
Some time passed and there have been rumors of the game potentially restarting with tu having more interest than A&M.
Realistically, both schools are a ton of OOC games scheduled for years and years to come.
If it were to happen, it's likely not starting for another 7-10 years. That's if they start planning it now.

Ok but you can’t use the “our schedules are full” excuse when you refuse to play each other in bowl games

A&M has never refused to play them in a bowl.
