Universities are businesses that gain market share by utilizing the name, image, and likeness of the players.

This is flat out capitalism and if you are boring enough to bring politics into sports discussion, you probably need to understand politics better.
It’s more like extortion at this point. The NCAA fricked this up for years because they are weak. They go along with an out structure that will kill small d1 schools and allow student athletes to transfer at will. Contracts are they very least needed for this to have a capitalistic system.

Do they refund the fee after a loss?

Will the fans be able to get money back when the players suck?

People in Tennessee are very poor, this will likely tank attendance.

What an assinine statement! The average Texas income is less than $5,000 more per year than Tennessee. The average Texas cost of living is exactly the same amount higher than Tennessee. So they come out exactly even! There's a 15,000 person waitibg list for Tennessee season tickets. How long is Texas' waiting list?

One important thing to note..
Neyland Stadium 101,915
Average Ticket Price $125 (guessing)
Home Games 7
Ticket Revenue ~ $89 million
10% Increase = $8.9 million
If a teams stadium only has 55,000 fans..
you would have to increase ticket prices $23 to make $8.9 million
For smaller schools, that is probably be a huge increase in ticket prices.

Love how fans are being forced to foot the bill for all this NIL bullshite
1) Fans aren't being *forced* to pay for anything
2) You thought the coaches were gonna take a pay cut?
3) You thought the University was gonna divert back into this?
4) You thought Professors were gonna work for less?
5) You thought tuition would go up to cover this?

NIL needs to DIAF. Or at least cap it.

Ticket prices going up is expected.
Calling a 10% ticket price increase a "talent fee" is begging for a court case brought by the players.. in which they will argue.. we deserve a 50% "talent fee"
This will not end well.

For what? Letting the market decide how much players should be paid?
The market was already deciding. We did not *have* to pay players. They played anyway.

NIL isn't going anywhere. A salary cap doesn't impact it at all. If a company wants to pay a player $1 billion to play for _____, there is nothing that can be done about that. That is outside of a salary cap.. outside of conference rules.. that is player specific and can't be limited.

This is completely the fault of the NCAA. They let this process run wild, and we're seeing the logical results of that. They did nothing but kick the can down the road, hoping it would go away. But no legal process involving individual rights in the US is gonna go away. If they had faced the problem, say, in the year 2000, and taken a measured approach to controlling it, it would be a lot different today and going forward.

Don't be a rockhead. The players were already playing, nimrod.
This wasn't "capitalism".. This was politics, ya dope.

Everyone wants players to get paid until they are the ones having to pay them.
Posted on 9/17/24 at 10:30 am to Wanruningchen
I’d happily pay more.

No it will not end well. There are several different paths that this can take legally, politically, and culturally.
NONE of them will help the cause.
I truly think we are stupider now as a collective than we have ever been. There is a reason this was done with scholarships for over a century.

I pretty much no longer care about the players, their stories or what happens to them.

Then you are stupid, because these leagues are not run by the left.
