Selling all of their moonshine. Very scared of LSU

“According to sources #Tennessee is prepared to make Tony Vitello the highest paid college baseball coach in the country.”

What’s the salary range, I thought baseball coaches were in the 1-1.5 million range and good assistants around 200k a year? Am I ball park close?

So they are going to take a loss in football and baseball?

Nobody will attended their football games so that will be a loss and they don’t seat enough to make baseball a profitable sport like the select few of us are able to do

I figure that plus committing to update their facilities is what it will take to keep him away from LSU

With the uncertainty around legalizing pay for play I think most big schools are going to be a little hesitant to commit 10s - 100s of millions of dollars to non revenue driving sports.

Baseball salary is one of those things it is hard to determine the exact values. Many are at private schools that don't have to disclose numbers, and base salary is just a component

Tim Corbin makes somewhere North of 2M after bonuses (exact amounts unknown), while a coach like Heefner makes maybe half a million at DBU after bonuses (his base salary is less than 400K). Tadlock was just promised a seven-year rolling contract (lifetime) that is supposed to be in the upper echelon. It will be interesting to watch the numbers there

I really wonder about your thought process here, if such a thing exists

Right. Highest paid by what metric? Base salary? Base salary plus incentives? Guaranteed salary over the contract term?

I think they rightly realize that if they lose TV then they probably are basically done in baseball for the foreseeable future....I mean they won't be able to get a big name coach and they are losing a lot of starters.

You'd have to gamble on somebody like Gautreau (if he would even go to UT) or maybe even down to Cannizaro. That is a risky situation.

They have to go all in on Vitello....I still think it's hard for them to keep him if it is who LSU wants and he is their #1 choice. We shall see.

My guess (and it is a guess) is that Vitello would make a base salary that is more than 1.75M before bonuses, and has already been promised extensive baseball facility renovations. The rumors at A&M (unconfirmed) are that Schloss will make around that number in base salary. There are also supposed to be major renovations in CS as well.

It won't be long - might be this year honestly, before coaches break the 2M mark in the SEC. Schools aren't exactly hurting for cash. What is more important is the money beyond base salary

A&M is looking at more than 30M in renovations for both baseball facilities and the stadium. To start ..

Can't blame the coach for getting the bucks while he can. The Vols had a great year. Congrats.

Seems kind of odd to make a guy with no wins in Omaha the highest paid corch in college baseball

You saying that Tennessee doesn't miss a beat if Vitello goes? What about the 7 starters?

This is why a smart guy refuses to dismiss any interest other programs show for your coach. The bigger the fish that comes-a-calling, the bigger the payday. It's all in the Bill Dance book entitled, "How To Reel in the Big One."
