Tennessee fans, question about Bob Shoop

I know he did well at Penn State as DC recently but your defense was terrible in his two years there. In your opinion was it his schemes? Lack of talent? The entire team just quit? I am curious because while I think Moorhead was a huge get as a head coach, I'm not sold on Shoop yet.

Big John Janitors did fine before Shoop. Shoop had soft defenses and willingly gave the edge to any and every team. He love to play his DBs a minimum of 10 yards off the ball in case the other team wanted an easy first down.
But he did have to deal with an unreal amount of injuries and Butch ran practice like it was a circus. His time at Vandy looks like fool’s gold if you look into it. He is suppose to be an intelligent guy. I’m anxious to see how he does at State.

He’s just a straight up beta male. Was ok with letting his athletes engage in cuckoldery. Just a degenerate overall.

Shoop does not bode well for MSU's season. He's very overrated. I'd forgotten MSU brought him on. I'm revising my prediction for MSU from 10-2 to 8-4, losses to UF, Bama, LSU, AU.

Thanks for the reply, unlike the typical Mizzou fans response. Yeah it will be interesting. I know Moorhead will see more points scored than Mullen's offense but we are loaded on defense this year. Hate to see it go to waste. I hope if Shoop don't work out that Moorhead has the balls to fire. Croom was so loyal to his assist coaches that he kept them regardless of how bad everyone saw.

He does look like he enjoys a nice glass of soymilk.

Moorhead looks like he wouldn’t put with incompetence. Those hard northern winters drain your tolerance for bullshite.

Just from hearing him speak I agree. The Penn State fans have been very generous telling us what kind of guy Moorhead is and that while softly spoken, will put his team ahead of nonsense. I assume that means his staff?
We will have a very stout DL in two deep, maybe 3 deep. Our linebackers who start are solid with a little less depth but still solid. Secondary will be much improved. Shoop better deliver this year or else.

I agree. His downfall was his outrageous soy consumption.

By the way, this will be our 5th DC in 5 years. In that period we've had several that liked to play CB's 10 fricking yards off the receivers and we got burned time and time. I think last year we adjusted to the talent as the season unfolded but still, you give WR that much comfort in this conference you will get burned. I hope Shoop is not one of those with the pass rush we gonna have this year. Our pass rush could be sick.

He had precisely 1 good half during his 2 years as defensive coordinator at Tennessee.
People will blame injuries, but good defensive coordinators deal with injuries all the time and still find a way to not have the 2 worst defenses in the history of the program.
If we had Janitors in 2016, we win the east going away, easily beat A&M, and Lyle would still be the coach.
He did contribute to getting Lyle fired, so he's a good guy I guess

I was really excited about the hire but the numbers speak for themselves. It's just a matter of if it was because of Butch meddling or Shoop being the sum of his assistants with Vandy/Penn St. I'm interested to see what happens this year but there's not much debate that the defense, while he was here, was absolutely atrocious compared to our previous defenses.

Why are y’all so quick to dismiss the best coach in school history?

Shoop was good at Vandy and Penn St because of Brent Pry. Having terrible cartoon come to life BUTch Jones as a HC didn't help but people around Vandy during his time here knew Pry was the guy really making things happen, especially in recruiting.

Shoop is shite. Moorhead is ,however, the best hire in the country. I don’t think he will let shoop mess up too much

I actually think Shoop is a good coach. I think some of it was our players being big softies.
Our biggest problem was we would allow someone to catch a 4 yard curl all day but the WR would push forward for 5 more yards after contact. Same thing against the run. We had to be the worst defense in the country in allowing yards after contact.
