Not all laws are legal. This passing would be one of those times. I'll assume you're joking.

In any case, people on spring break trash things. That isn't a special quality associated with any school or city. That's just what college kids do. The city should plan ahead and have people ready to clean the beach after the party ends. In South Padre, they close the party beach at 5pm. Cops actually line up and start pushing people out if they don't leave soon after. They can then clean the beach up and have it ready for the next day. Sounds like GS needs to get things in order. The money added to the towns economy from all the tourism will more than cover the cost of cleaning the beach. It just needs to be organized.

Gulf Shores doesnt want spring break like this and they are okay with the lesser revenue

In that case start writing tickets. It may take a year, but if GS has a reputation for high dollar tickets for MIP and littering and PI then people will choose to go to spring break in another place. An MIP in South Padre is $90. You get a ticket and immediately go start drinking again. They don't care. They know you know they don't care. If GS starts to care more, college kids will realize it isn't worth the tickets.

Why are A&M kids even in GS/OB? I know Texas beaches are gross but still.

My cousin said that. He said Texas beaches seemed like they had oil in the water. I went with him to Mobile/Pensacola..a week later he went to Texas. Texas beaches sucked....Dirty...way different than Pensacola.

The problem with Texas beaches is the Mississippi river. The reason the water looks bad is because there is a ton of dirt stirred up. As you move further South in Texas, the water looks nicer.

Galveston - Looks terrible

Port Aransas - Looks slightly better, but Port A sucks.

South Padre - As good as it gets, but it's a crazy far drive through the king ranch. Don't run out of gas.

As they should, but if someone actually proposes an ordinance to not allow Texas vehicles into the town they will be laughed out of the city council meeting.

But for every positive development with college students, Craft said he's worried about clashes. "Thousands are together in one group on the beach and it's a lot of different schools and sometimes that is a volatile environment," Craft said.

Students from Texas A&M, the University of Tennessee, the University of Alabama and Auburn University have been visible on beaches this week, and LSU students are expected next week.

I could be wrong, but I feel like not many college kids on spring break aren't gonna go picking a fight because your team beat my team in football. I understand the concern, because naturally there will be drinking and friction. It still seems ridiculous though.

GS sells it self as a family destination not a college spring break party town. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. I'll say sense the advent of the condo. 1973?
A condo can be rented to a family of 4 much cheaper as far as overhead than to 4 frat boys which turns into a party for 40.

Just kidding about the Texas tags. And the AU stickers.
Sort of.

Yeah I went there for a week back in '03 with a huge family group. It was a lot of fun. Very chill beach destination.

My buddy from LSU told me every year they would go for spring break. Condo owners would rent out to college kids then call the cops and get them kicked out for drinking underage.

I guess blaming fraternities for all the problems in the world still happens today like it did when i was in college.

If you don't think that frats breed entitled behavior, you must have never been around a cool frat. I liked frat parties, and have plenty of friends that were in fraternities, but let's be honest... This behavior is in line with a lot of frats. That's simply the truth.

Most have policies you need to be at least 25

Spring break in GS used to consist of under 18 year olds hanging out in Alvins Island parking lot until about 9:30

So you were one of the crabby old "get off of my lawn" types that whined about Widespread Panic getting booked at the Wharf last year? That's why it's hard to take a lot of the local resident complaints and especially the hypocritical complaining from the Orange Beach mayor. Any mayor of a tourist town who is openly critical of the Hangout Festival which basically fills hotels on a weekend they wouldn't be near full is clueless. People get stumbling around drunk during Mullet Toss, Kenny Chesney, and the numerous cawntrey music concerts at the Wharf but heaven forbid they let a non country act play in the area. Can't have any of that heathen rock n roll. Only wholesome cawntrey music.

We have our fair share in Galveston this week, went to 8 mile the other day and it was packed. Beach wasn't trashed at all though.

I have no problem with the event. What I and other have problems with are people cheating the system and the city not being prepared.

There are occupancy limits for a reason.

Hangout Fest produces revenue for the owner of Hangout/Gulf and provides an early start to summer for rentals. But as far as revenue for the town(shopping and restaurants) its severely lacking.

They pack people into condos and dont eat out.

At least HF with the city cleans up afterwards

He is jealous. plain and simple. I do find it hilarious at the two cities different statements on similar events throughout the year.

A friend partnered with Bob Marley's family to bring and start a new restaurant chain. It was going to have a reggae band playing all the time. Both OB and GS didnt want that type of crowd and music, but they have no problem with Flora bama, Hangout, and live bait.

That festival sucks now. First two years it was awesome, the lineups after that have all gone downhill.

Miss me some Papa Roccos though, shite was pretty good late night leaving the festival.

Locals barely put up with Hangout fest and that's a controlled localized environment.

I just bought my hangout fest tickets, am I gonna run into any problems?
