It makes sense to make a western pod to reduce travel across the country.

Ohio State and Notre Dame, please. It won’t happen, but imagine a football conference with these schools:
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
Auburn
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Notre Dame
Ohio State

Other fan bases are not as rabid about college football like SEC fan bases. More people in your conference viewership means a larger TV contract.

Until streaming services start bidding on and winning conference contracts it absolutely does still matter. Those huge TV contracts are what is driving this. The biggest advantage the B1G has over the SEC right now contractually is that the B1G has an escalation clause for adding teams that the SEC doesn't match.

North Carolina & Florida State if I could just choose 2 if they were adding more. The FSU brand would carry more weight in TV contract negotiations than just adding someone like West Virginia in a new state in the footprint. And I'd prefer to add the flagship university if it is new state, like UNC. North Carolina makes sense geographically and would give the SEC 2 of the 5 "blue blood" basketball programs. (Kentucky, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Kansas)

I believe the ACC has a huge buy out and grant of rights clause in their last contract. But, supposedly if the whole conference implodes then that all goes to the wayside. So, if we are wanting ACC teams them we, and possibly B1G, would have to kill the conference to make it happen.
I imagine the B1G would want a North Carolina school and one from Virginia and, this is where there may be a bit of competition, a Florida school. The SEC won’t want the B1G planting a flag in the middle of SEC territory if FSU was added to them. That’s why I think FSU would get gobbled up by the SEC first. Let them have Miami instead. UVA and UNC would be nice but culturally I feel Vtech and NCSt would fit in better. Would take any 3 of these to put us at 20.
Clemson be ok but we already have one school with a weird cult like vibe to it.

There is simply no reason to expand for the sake of expanding. The only exception would be Notre Dame and they ain’t coming to the SEC.

We should stand pat. We are just fine with what we have. The only way SEC expansion will make sense at this point is if the ACC starts to disintegrate. And then we should leave FSU, Clemson and Tech out of it and concentrate on North Carolina and Virginia - two southern states that would fit in with the SEC very nicely.

Not correct. Everything already is streaming. All the networks are “streaming services.” Fans have the channels they want wherever they live. The driver is no longer about market area, it’s about how many viewers a team attracts, and those two things are very different.

And which teams attract the most viewers? Hint: I already know the answer.

Yep, I also know the answer. What’s your point?

I've always pointed out the distance for non-fb events in these discussions...but their focus is mostly how it helps fb.

True, BUT how often will teams from opp. sides have to face off each season (basketball, baseball, track/field, etc.)?
Posted on 3/14/23 at 7:04 am to Bwmdx
Right...BUT B1G could have a 2 school lead (Wash. & Ore.). So, does that factor into SEC growth?

We are just going to end up with the North VS South and the championship games will be called Civil Wars.
