All Tennessee needed was 4 tds 3 extra points and a 2 pt conversion to win the game.

Heupel outcoached Saban?

The whole Bama staff got outcoached by Clemson in 2019 in the biggest game of the year.

It happens.

Because he did. Vols have the better staff, Bama has the better players. Bama has 60 guys they can play the Vols have around 30 healthy capable guys they are playing.

Total yards 573 to 346
First downs 34 to 13
Third downs 15/20 to 2/13
TOP 40:26 to 19:34

If this is out-coached - I’ll take it every time.

He really didn't. The two plays that kept Tennessee in it for so long were errors made by Alabama players: the roughing the kicker penalty in the second quarter and Jobe looking at the sideline when he got beat deep in the third quarter.

It's really difficult to say you outcoached another staff when your offense was held to 10 first downs, and less than 20 minutes time of possession, while also giving up over 570 yards on defense.

I will say that Heupel had the Vols ready to play this year for the first time in the series since 2015.

Defensively, that was about as bad a game plan by the Vols as I have seen. They got 14 points because of the hurry up, but it did their defense no favors at all. If not for a fumble near the goal line, the Tide would have been close to 60! The best defensive play the Vols has was going down with a fake injury to slow Bama’s no huddle. It was obvious and pathetic.

This.

Bama did come out flat as hell on first few series after the half and miscues killed their momentum in first half. Also, there were some major breakdowns on some defensive plays, but that has become par for the course and hopefully resolves itself this off-season.

UTks penalties (lack of discipline) were decisive and that is usually directly related to coaching and prep for the environment

Then, they were gifted a blocked punt short field position, bad turnover, and gave opportunity for a quick score after a dumbass running into the kicker penalty on 4th and 28, and Bama still would have covered 27 pts.

UTk kept fighting, as you'd expect in a rivalry and as they have in much closer losses over the past 15 years, but let's not get carried away that anyone would take the UT staff as a whole over Saban's.

That said, we'll gladly trade our DC. Everyone is outcoaching him

If your strategy is to fake injuries then you aren’t a good coach

I wouldn't go that far. Heupel appears to be a very good hire though.

The notion that Saban was outcoached is just indicative of the reality that it's been soooooooo long since Vol fans saw quality football in Knoxville.

Anyone who thinks Heupel outcoached Saban has fewer brain cells than the head of cabbage in my fridge. It isn't even a remotely intelligent comment.
