OPELIKA, Alabama -- The Harvey Updyke trial came to a stunning conclusion before it had even started when Judge Jacob Walker ruled this morning that the jury pool was so tainted that it was impossible for Updyke to receive a fair trial.

Is moving it out of state an option?

He won't plea to a 13 year, die in prison deal, so maybe DA will be a little more reasonable.

i thought the judge only granted a continuance? a continuance changes little to nothing. However if he decided the jury pool is to tainted then outside of moving the trial to to Oregon i dont see how this trial can continue

So they go through about 30-50 potential jurors and they call it quits?

Nice.

I wish they would move it to Tuscaloosa. It would be a win/win for AU, IMO.

This x1000. Give the idiot some community service, make him work to repay his "debt to society," and move the frick on. This circus doesn't do anything but waste taxpayer's time, money, and add another embarrassing mark on our state.

Community service for everyone who commits a crime

BTW it's the defense who is causing it to draw out, not the prosecution

We should let all criminals determine their punishments.

You don't have a clue what the prosecution is wanting.

Who is doing it doesn't really have anything to do with what I said.

Because that's what I said. Maybe if all "criminals" were people who put some chemicals on trees, then yea. I missed the part where I said murderers, rapists, armed robbers, etc etc and all criminals should have community service.
