you can pick out outlier examples all you want, just like one can do with trading stocks. But my post still remains truth. It's pretty well known, actually.

Keep in mind I'm not saying TAMU will always be a subpar program. I'm simply saying that USC's recent historical success is enough to assume they with the right coach, they could be back to playing in January.

In fact, they offered him more money than he's getting at A&M.

Sumlin to USC

Would be a downgrade for Sumlin IMO. USC coaching job is a cursed job it seems.

It is a great example. It shows that historical success doesn't really matter as much as mouth breathing college football fans want it to be or we aren't a top 15 job.

So aggy is now upset that USC wouldn't want to hire Sumlin in this thread? Simply tremendous. Between that and the lateral move, this lived up to the billing.

95% is strong

I think it is money, but I think it's more about ability win once you hit a level of coaching where you're being offered big time program HC jobs. If you win, the money will come.

Sure. No one debates that.

They aren't like Nebraska or Miami. Both of those two programs are fricked for good.

A team without historical success' fans bleating about how it doesn't matter. There's a shock. I'm going to have a heart attack and die of not surprise.

Yeah, well they do care about it I'm sure. All human beings care about where they live. But its not a primary factor.

Or no one would ever coach in some the shitholes some colleges are in. Like Baton Rouge.

But seriously, USC is a truly elite program. It doesn't get much more elite than them.

That being said, I do not think Sumlin will go to USC.

It will be someone like Whittingham or Hugh Freeze.

He already turned the job down once but anything could happen I guess.

If so, I would be thrilled to get Morris.

Maybe less than that, but it's significantly more important than any other factor.

Also coaches rarely leave a top 20ish job for another one. You could argue there's a certain level where they are all pretty much lateral since coaches almost never leave one for the other

I'm not sure why aTm fans are taking this personally!!! There are fans in here of multiple schools saying the same thing! I guess common sense and comprehension are not required at aTm.....

There are 2 arguments here: 1.) Better program USC or aTm? and 2.) Will Sumlin leave for USC if given the opportunity.

1.) It's USC and it's not close!!!
2.) Sumlin isn't leaving; he doesn't have the resume just yet and would not garner the kind of money USC is going to pay......plus, I don't think his philosophy is best fit for USC like say a Gary Patterson (TCU).

For every outlier example you point out, I can point out even more where it's played out exactly as people expected.

Alabama
Florida
Notre Dame
FSU

I mean we can do this all day. But historical success matters to coaches. It's name recognition. It's something to talk about in recruiting. It's banners to show recruits.

Ask John Calipari if historical success matters. A successful team is going to attract better coaches and hence, better players. I'm sorry that you disagree because TAMU isn't historically very good. It doesn't mean TAMU won't be good. It just means that USC is a better job.

Completely agree and there is no way in hell Sumlin is leaving. And I wouldn't if I were him, either. Just because I think USC is a better job it doesn't mean I think it'd be wise for Sumlin to start over. You never know what kinda shite might be coming down the pipe that Sark may have left behind for the next guy.

I'll give a caveat. USC is a better job overall, but not a better job for Sumlin right now. I think that's fair.

Some of the agricultural posters herein got upset that people think USC is a better program (imagine that) and tried to make this a Chavis thread. Thankfully, no one was dumb enough to take the bait.
