I have never heard anyone who went to USM come close to saying they were too good for LSU.

I went to Ole Miss. I am an Ole Miss fan. But when UGA isnt playing Ole Miss. I pull for UGA. But I do not wear the gear, and when Ole Miss did play UGA I pulled for Ole Miss.
A couple of my buddies went to Ole Miss but still cheered for LSU gear and all

I grew up an Ole Miss fan but decided to take a full academic scholarship to Alabama. I became a full-blown Tide fan the minute I set foot on campus. I don't know how people can go to one school and cheer for another.
Now I will say I had to go to Ole Miss for a summer and a semester or two and I loudly cheered for Alabama. But I was not Ole Miss by choice and had already spent years in Tuscaloosa.

I don't see how someone can spend the first 18 years of their life being die-hard fans of a school then change because they take classes at another school.

I still LOVE LSU, but not so much Baton Rouge, the same people I always knew, or being close to my parents.

It is not hard at all. When you are student at the school you chose yourself, it is easy. Or at least it was at Alabama.

Of course. Playing in a golf tournament that weekend but play early on Saturday. Going out Friday night and Saturday afternoon to the games. Sunday's round will be rough I'm guessing

I imagine a lot of people who go to Vandy didn't cheer for anybody growing up.

You get caught up in the spirit around the school. It just happens. You have a real connection to the place.
Saying that, I'm planning on going to LSU to finish my undergrad. So uh, I'm curious to see how this works if I attend two SEC schools. LSU is going to have to work hard to sway me.

Depends on your personality. If you're a normal person, you're going to turn into an LSU fan. If you a contrarian for the contrary's sake like me, you'll be spending all your time defending your previous allegiance to all the rabid LSU fans around you.

Probably.

Exactly. Anytime Tennessee plays Vandy in Nashville, there is more orange in the Vandy student section.

I am a lifelong UT fan and almost went to Vandy. The only reason I didn't is I wanted to get out on my own. I grew up a few blocks from Vandy so it wasn't really going away to school. Glad I chose UT cause of the life experiences and I would have worn my UT gear all the time at Vandy
As for the original question...I don't have to associate my fanhood with my education. My choice of sports teams isn't going to get a job for me

Lifelong Alabama fan here. But I actually WANTED to go to AU simply because the University is a stone's throw away from my house, therefore it would have saved me a TON of money and I could have still lived at home with mom (even though since I moved out, I don't want to move back in lol). But the they didn't offer a degree in the field I was wanting to study, so I ended up in Orlando, FL attending school at a University that doesn't have a football program... or any sporting program for that matter... AND AS OF THIS MONDAY I'VE ONLY GOT TWO WEEKS LEFT AND I'LL BE A 21 YEAR OLD COLLEGE GRADUATE WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE!!! WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!

If you are from out of state and going to a school in alabama, you can become a resident in a week. Only have to have a driver's license from alabama and proof of residency. They told me this and gave me a packet about it at a school interview at south alabama. I figure this draws many kids to schools in alabama.

Right their with you man. Born in Alabama but have spent most of my life in louisiana. Hard to deal with all the bandwagon fans.

I grew up in Baton Rouge and moved to Tuscaloosa when I was 13. I now go to Bama and will pull against them in every game they play. Geaux Tigers

My boss graduated from tOSU and is a huge Gator fan. In fact, he would pull for any SEC team over Big X teams other than the Buckeyes.
