Student tickets in the SEC

I saw a post over on VolNation where the poster said that he had contacted the Dean of Students to see if he could get his ticket for the game Saturday changed from section x to section y. The response was that due to low student ticket sales for the game, the athletic department had taken that section back from the student block.
Do many schools really sell individual game tickets to students? When I was at Auburn your student ticket was a season ticket - either you had a ticket for every game or else you had to get in with someone else's ticket. Also, it was all general admission seating, nothing assigned (except for the greek blocks that were "reserved").
Also, I can't believe a school would change the size of the student section from game to game based on tickets sold.

Yeah it's just general admission at UA's student section, except for the block seating behind the endzone which is mostly reserved for Greek organizations. Seems a bit weird that a school would make a student sit in a certain section, that would be like herding cats.

Alabama sells them in packages now, but underclassmen don't get to pick their package. Because student ticket demand is greater than seating availability, freshmen, for example get tickets to three games. One good one, and two sleepers.
Seats are not assigned.

UGA is a lottery: you either get half season or full season supposedly based on the number of credit hours you have (though every year some freshmen wind up with full season while some seniors get only half season for some reason)
Seating is general admission in the designated sections
Now, if say you can't make the game, you can re-submit a single game ticket to a pool. So, the converse of that, you can put your name in the lottery to get a single game ticket each week if you don't already have one (no guarantee you'll get one though)
Also, If you have a ticket on your student id and don't use it, you get a strike. If you accumulate three strikes, you won't be eligible to get tickets the next year

At OM the students guy season tickets for like 95 bucks. It's first come first serve on the sections from the goal post to about the back of the end zone on the southwest side of the stadium.

For us everyone other than freshman get all games if they want them. Freshman enter a lottery for the remaining tickets, which are spit into 2 packages so more freshman can get tickets. Seats are first come first served.

When I was at Bama we had season tix for $45. haha. For all students, including freshmen.
Now there is a package for underclassmen. My sister got LSU, North Tex and Vandy.

put name in lottery week before game.
lottery chances rise based on how many sporting events yo go to. (called Loyalty points)
The less popular events you go to, the more points you get. example: going to a girls basketball non-conference game gives you 4 points, while a football game or men's basketball game gives you 1.
Then if you get selected in the lottery you print out your ticket and it's free.

If you have less than 13 hours you get half season, at least that's what it is as a senior.
