To Irons and Leto, I can promise both of you this. If Gus beats Bama last season, HE ISN'T FIRED. Would bet my life on it without hesitation.
Losing to Bama wasn't the only reason he was fired. He had lost a minimum of 4 games for 7 straight seasons and was the very definition of mediocre. But losing to Bama certainly ended any hope of Gus keeping his job.

You are probably right. That win might've saved his job this year, considering Alabama the best team in the country by far.
That certainly doesn't mean the list of things I mentioned weren't a big factor.

How were those years overall? Two SEWC and one SECC. Maybe that was the reason for the extension.
The 2013 extension was done before Auburns championship win over Missouri. The 2017 extension was done after the 28-7 loss in the SECCG
So yea, in both situations, his most recent win was against Alabama

No it just means that AU doesn't gauge success by just beating Bama.

There were certainly other reasons. The program had gone stale. He wasn't recruiting very well. Too many losses. On and on.

The decision to fire Gus came after the A&M Game, mainly due to the USC game. It might have been reversed if they beat Bama and ended up 7-3, but that would have been the case for any program.

Auburn had a lot of luck and things go their way in the 10 and 13 losses.

That usually happens when extensions are made at the end of the year. Can't remember too many programs that give them mid-season.

Hopefully it happens again in 2022. This is a great stat for Saban

Saban has lost to three separate Auburn HCs a year after winning a NC
Alabama also defeated Auburn the year after winning national championships in 2011, 2015, and 2017. Essentially, Auburn beats us every other national championship. If that pattern holds true, Alabama should beat Auburn in Jordan-Hare this year.

I think OP is the most Bama/Saban obsessed non-Bama poster on this board

Did your source provide these numbers or did you do the work on your own this time?

You're not so bad, and I'm not always insufferable.

Honestly the AU posters on this board aren’t too bad. It’s just a few with you being by far the worst
