Not new news at all, but this has got to be awful on college coaches.
KSR

“I have 100 free agents every six months,” the Kentucky head coach told Bird. “You don’t think there’s pressure of raising money to keep them and to pay them what they deserve"

“I feel very isolated, very alone. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how long I can take dealing with what I’ve dealt with. Myself, personally, I can only do so much. I’ve never felt this kind of stress and pressure.”
“I can’t coach the way I want to coach because all I do is raise money or try to raise money,” Stoops said. “I have to go meet somebody for a drink or meet somebody for a meeting or dinner or do something to raise money three-fourths of my life. It’s just reality.”

Guy makes 8 million a year at a place where 8-4/7-5 is more than acceptable.

Cry me a river.

HOLY CRAP! I shamed him into making a post about Kentucky.

It might be his first.

Talk about a fricking grind.

You never really feel like you have a team, any mercenary can jump ship the moment it gets tough.

I think Stoops has 2 or 3 more years in him here and then a new era begins.

You need to #1 recruit players who aren’t solely motivated by who will pay them the most and want to be at your school

#2 Accept the situation is what it is and always be scouting and ready to move on a replacement at any position.

I do think they should modify the signing windows and also extend dead periods in the summer to essentially force staffs to take vacations. Outside of that there’s not much that could be done even if the NCAA or the conferences wanted to.

I do think revenue sharing will ease this a little bit.

I'd say maybe these coaches will have to earn those inflated salaries now ...

College football coaches whine and cry more than any other collection of millionaires. They have benefited from the free market and are upset that others benefiting from the free market makes their lives a bit more difficult.

This is the problem, it is a grind, but it's a very well paid grind. Hard for a normal person to feel sympathy for someone who makes more in a week than most make in a year.

I don't start many threads unless I think it's SEC rant worthy to everyone.

You and your other alters should follow this guidance.

I can agree with this. Also, I think for schools not named Georgia/Alabama/LSU/Ohio State/Michigan, you simply have to coach better. Good coaching and fundamentals can overcome pure talent.

You realize this thread is about Mark Stoops not Mike Stoops, right?

Oh yeah, you're a whorn so I'll 'splain it to ya.

They are brothers, yes.

Mike had two stints at Oklahoma as an assistant.

Mark, was never at Oklahoma in any capacity.

I'm sure sharing the pot with basketball doesn't make it easy either.

That said, I wonder how much our JMI deal plays into adding an extra hurdle for NIL. They stopped some athletes, like Levis, from doing certain promotions because it was against their marketing deal. It's an absolute pain in the arse to work around.

It really does sound awful. Most of these coaches just want to coach the game, and not schmooze donors.
