Still sucks that expanded CFP will devalue regular season (and maybe conferences) but…

Under a 12-team format with CCGs, a team playing in a conference championship and making a run from the first round could play up to 17 total games (12 regular season + 1 CCG + 4 playoff).

Under a 24-team format without CCGs, a non-bye team (seeds 9–24) making a run to the title game would still cap out at 17 total games (12 regular season + 5 playoff).

For the top 8 teams who earn a first-round bye, the maximum workload would actually drop to 16 total games.

Reasonable. Off-season calendar still needs to be sorted because coaching changes & portal is still absurd.

Conf championship games should be cancelled.

If one league won't do it the committee needs to move the first playoff game up and make them do it.

We only need an 8 team playoff with four 16 team leagues.

Either they have to all go away, or the non-P5 CCGs all get played the same week as the playoff starts.

If one of those teams gets a playoff spot they can either forfeit their CCG or their playoff game lol.

It’ll be interesting to see how this works because I agree with you that the CCGs basically have to die & there’s no other way 24 teams reasonably works.

That would be fun though & give meaning to the regular season, so the NCAA won’t do it.

The real reason this won’t happen is that there’s no central authority that controls the conferences or schools’ relationship to them.

It’s a neat idea though

Should have always been a 4 team conference playoff and conference winner goes to a 4 team national championship playoff.

That would make too much traditional sense though.

This... would actually work and be great. That's why it won't happen. We need to have #23 Tulsa vs. #17 Louisville in the dodecafinals of the 24 team playoff.

College football desperately needs a central governing authority that has no connection to TV interests.

I dislike it but the silver lining is that we won’t get screwed as bad for playing nine conference games. My preference is to go back to 8 games and 12 teams though
