Ppl say what they want, but to say he wasnt a very good HC just shows ignorance
Dominated at UF
Had a number of 10 win seasons at SC. I think they had one before he got there.

I don't get why everyone who isn't a Gamecock fan is so triggered about when he left
We were glad. He should have done it after the Miami bowl win.
Love what he did for our program but it was time for him to go and we would have never fired him. He had already mentally quit a couple years earlier.
I am upset, however, with how shite of a shape he left us in.

It is a rare occasion that a coach leaves a strong team for the next guy. If the next guy has no success, the cupboard was bare, if he has success, it was because of the previous coach. All depends on how the next season goes.

A strong team?
With Spurrier coaching, even if he quits mid season, I should be able to go out and coach the team he had assembled and beat the fricking citadel
It doesn't get that bad overnight.

I feel obligated to hate Spurrier but I just can't do it. He is a national treasure.
Same. The guy is in the John McKay hall of fame for one liners.

I think it's brilliant for Florida to let potential coaches know that they'll have such an offensive mastermind looking over their shoulder and providing input and helping to second guess their decisions.
That will surely encourage more people to take the job.
Exactly.
If Gator fans want plays and input from the OBC, then hire the old coot as I he coach.
Good luck with your recruiting.

Yep the SEC was more fun with him in it. As a UGA fan he was a pain but damn that guy is funny.

Spurrier had lost the team and wasn't gonna win another game at USCe. He did the school a favor by quitting. Muschamp isnt the coach right now had it gone down any other way. As far as McElwain goes, Spurrier wasn't trying to help change his offense but was only offering to help schematically to establish traditional passing concepts. This is not the first SEC school he has offered to help

I don't care how good Spurrier was or how terrible McElwain was, a retired ex-coach has absolutely no business sniffing around a program, even if his intentions are good.
Nothing good or productive can come from it.

CJM should have took him up in it. Politically having Spurrier in the boat with him may have bought him some time. Ultimately those suspensions and some dumb comments brought him down. Spurrier could have buffered both IMHO.

NO good came of Mac's offense.
Spurrier could have saved his job. Not an issue. Spurrier was here and said nothing for a long time, till he knew writing was on the wall.
Mac couldn't develop a QB to save his life. Spurrier tried to help him. Him trying to assist him is not an issue.

quote:his ego was never gonna let him leave Carolina in a position for the next coach to do better than he did - not immediately. that's the 1 thing I was certain of when he was hired at USC in 2005. I just never imagined his exit would occur in such a dysfunctional manner, letting Junior and Whammy have carte blanche with his legacy at stake.
I am upset, however, with how shite of a shape he left us in.
you're right - he should have walked away after beating the very hated (to him personally) UMiami Hurricanes in 2014.
Spurrier looks a bit silly even speaking about McElwain's departure at all. I was very relieved when he resigned his special advisor position to Pastides at Carolina for a similar one back in Gainesville.

Why? Spurrier is basically a God at UF. Of course someone will ask him his opinion.
No one at UF is worried about Spurrier. I hope he is there to help Frost or Campbell.
If you are that arrogant you can't accept help from a hall of fame coach, especially when your teams suck and your offense is absolutely embarrassing, you have issues.
Spurrier didn't get Mac fired. Spurrier didn't try to take his job or join the staff. He asked if he could help. How any of you few that as a negative, just makes no sense.
Spurrier was point blank asked did you offer to help, he said yes. How is him trying to help bad. The best offensive mind in the SEC in 30 years.

Mac blew alot of smoke when Spurrier got here. Saying how great its gonna be having him around to learn from.
Maybe SOS heard this and offered help when he saw Mac struggling

All I know is that LSU made his arse quit...and thanks to the stupid flood getting the game moved...I did not get to see it in person in WB. But...glad his arse quit after an arse whoopin' in TS.
Lord knows...he deserved it and was due.
