It was my first reaction...my dad is somewhat in the same age range so when I get strange calls from him & my mother I'm always afraid of the C word.

I think Spurrier made some comments recently about having a "3 pots and out" rule with player discipline. He is probably going to clarify that.

one of my buddies was at media days (in a working capacity) and was saying all the carolina beat writers thought this was going to be spurrier's last year, regardless of what he may have said when asked

I'd be surprised if he called a hasty press conference for a retirement announcement unless it was health related (hope not). That's a kind of "we're planning for this press conference on Monday" type deal IMO.
