SCAR fans have to admit it was a strange presser.

I'm biased, obviously, but I think it was a brilliant move.

There is absolutely nothing interesting that is college football-related going on this time of year. Because of that, he has captured the attention of journalists all across the Southeast. His face and words are being printed all over newspapers and websites because of this move. Recruits are going to see that, and will remember it the next time another coach tells them Spurrier is about to hang it up.

The misconception that Spurrier is on the way out has hurt us dearly in recruiting. Announcing that he's along for the long term in the manner that he did should ultimately be beneficial for us.

Which is very common to hear on the SEC Rant.

Everyone said the same thing when he blasted Ron Morris during a press conference a few years ago.

Rom Morris has been let go by The State paper.

Spurrier - 1
Morris - 0

The "misconception" that was started by ... Spurrier.

So when recruits understandably start to bail as a result and reporters merely report and comment on what Spurrier said, the OBC calls a press conference to rant about "enemies". He shoots himself in the foot and then chooses to blame the gun.

It's far from a lock that recruits will buy it and that spurrier is here for the long term, whatever that means. His age is what it is.

He sure is thin-skinned for someone who likes to toss around verbal jabs at everyone.

Steve doesn't have to do this. Didn't he have a reporter in Columbia banned or threatened to quit himself because he wasn't exactly glowing in his column regarding the Gamecock program a few years ago?

Steve can be interesting, funny, witty but things like roasting the media over anything negative said about you are what whiners do. Honestly, in this case, he's acting like a 4 year old.
Recruiting is nasty. You can do one of two things, get nasty yourself and stop blaming others or whine. I didn't see Bowden lashing out at the media a few years ago when he wasn't doing great and all the Florida media was calling for his head. There's the difference in the two and why Bobby is considered a class act and Spurrier is considered....well. to be nice, colorful.

He sure does like to criticize or throw jabs at others. Whether it be for their record, style of play, whatever but if it comes back at him he starts banning anybody with an opinion and acting like a spoiled little brat. Reminds me of a southern John McEnroe. Make me wonder if Spurrier is really as secure as he seems to act. These are things people to do deflect form themselves and build themselves up by tearing others down and blaming the world for your situation and bringing up all the people you beat while at Florida. It's like he's trying to convince us he's still great and is worried what we think. Whoever this is, Dabo, Richt, whoever that is using his age against him, the same has been done to every coach that hit 65 or 70. Bryant, I know for a fact had every coach in the country using his age against him, Bowden had it used against him. Freddy Akers was having it used against him by Jackie. Paterno as well.
I would use it too if I'm recruiting against Carolina or anybody for that matter. He needs to act like the God he would like us believe he is and do what he has to do against negative recruiting cause negative recruiting is here to stay.

he can dish it out but he obviously can't take it. Now, with this little rant of his, he's made it national news and they're calling him out.

Ouch

Spurrier teams tend to do better when he's a little ticked off.

Does seem bitchy, but I'm just saying... Don't sleep on South Carolina this year.

Good for Spurrier. The sports media is the absolute worst, wish more players and coaches would tell them to cram it.

I'm referring to the talk that he was retiring this offseason.

Spurrier and the school quickly fixed the "1-2 more years" quote, but there are still schools actively using that quote against him, despite Spurrier repeatedly saying otherwise.

Not surprising, given Spurrier's ownership of that Dawg arse.
