It really would suck to lose your parents as a teenager

I'm sure there are people on here that lost a parent while in highschool. I didn't but I remember those I went to school with that did. I can't imagine what that must feel like to someone young. I feel blessed for sure.

Anyone here lose one while in HS?

Not while in high school, but my mother passed away August 4th, 2017. I’m 22, and not far removed from HS. It hurts like hell still.

Sorry to hear that. I never experienced that but I can't imagine losing my mom so young. That has to be very hard on someone just as you are really experiencing life.

I hope the young man has some more family he can lean on during these very difficult times.

Sorry news for sure. I'm sure Mom was no older than her 40's, and that is too young to die.

That's tough, prayers for kid that he can overcome a huge adversity and be successful. In the words of the great Paul McCartney "Take a sad song and make it better".

It definitely was hard... I mean, she’s fought numerous health issues all my life, when we found out about cancer, we thought she’d fight and make it through it too. It wasn’t even the cancer that took her... it was when they did surgery to put a chemo port in near her lung where it was, her body just couldn’t handle the surgery.

Yeah that late HS/College years are tougher than people think. The years a kid is just starting to dip his toe into independence, but has that safety net just in case.

Obviously it'll be tough for a bit. Keep your head up, and make her proud by not letting it take you down a negative path. Her "little lessons" will start to start popping in your head even more noticeably now, so it's like she's still around. Ha. God bless.

My mom passed when I was 26 and it was aweful. The mother dying takes the rock and the anchor from a family quickly. Holidays are horrible because she was always the person who planned everything
